I wonder if it's a monitor issue because mine look exactly the same color as the online picture.

I found this one on Etsy. The picture is a little deceiving in the the candle is only 4 inches high but it looks nice.
My plan is to use an inexpensive white pillar with the top carved out and a beeswax tea light inserted inside.
That way we get the benefit of the clean burning beeswax without the cost of a whole pillar. |

The color of the rose candles on my screen is lighter, similar to the color in conventional wax Advent candles. The rose candle on our table is a darker color instead of a baby pink. It's very pretty! The plum on my screen is the same as the actual plum candle. Maybe the batches of rose color that they make vary in tint.
Oooh, I love that Christmas candle! I'm definitely going to have to order one for next year! Thank you for the ideas!

Monitors definitely change the look of colors, especially when color matters! I've had the hardest time on this back-up computer I'm on for now, trying to pick out fabric from my favorite fabric site (my other computer was almost exactly "true color" - this one is TERRIBLE, although, overall, everything looks nice/right).
I've given up on fabric AND candles until after I get my new computer set up.
In the meantime, we're just using up all my PartyLite tealights - different shades of purple, but it does the trick

I think we are talking about two different companies here - Big Dipper Wax Works and Beeswax Candle Works - which would account for variations in color from pictures online.
Glad everyone is enjoying the beautiful beeswax candles from various companies - they are so sorth it. I'm partial as well to the Big Dipper ones.

I am glad I got to my Advent wreath - it was at the bottom of my Christmas decoration box. I will have to remember to leave it on top when I pack it all up again!

Bumping this thread, because I found another source for beeswax candles.
It was reading Jessica at Shower of Roses about her trying to find a monastery source for candles that made me look a bit more.
I missed the sale at Big Dipper Works, so I still haven't purchased from them. I do want to get the ones from Big Dipper Wax Works but the high cost of shipping always keeps me from clicking. But the colors are so rich and perfect.
Jessica bought hers from St. Bernard's Abbey, but she was looking for pillar candles. I use taper candles in my wreath, so I thought I'd look for another option.
Mount Savior Monastery is another Benedictine Monastery in NY (near Corning), founded by Fr. Damasus Winzen. I recognized his name from some of the books I have on my shelf, so I was draw in immediately. Their little gift shop has several choices for sizes in the Beeswax Advent candles.
It was a fast turnaround in ordering, and I'm very pleased. They burn beautifully and fit perfectly. They are 10", not 12", and a bit lighter in color than the others above.
Anyway, I am super duper pleased, especially giving my money to a Catholic monastery.

Thanks for your research Jenn! Did you see they also offer wool yarn! How cool is that.

They are having a "Warehouse Sale" on Saturday!!!!@#$#@#$%$#, that I'm just DYING to go to (because I just have absolutely NOTHING else to do, doncha know?! )
Allow me for a moment to be in a perfect world.....
:: Thursday---we'd have a 4Real Conference with lots of talks and small group discussions about dictation, picture books and nature study. Lots of chocolate and Christmas cookies.
:: Then on Friday----an Advent Retreat for all of us...talks and confession in the morning and then an afternoon of glorious SILENCE, followed up with a dinner catered by one of the fabulous THAI restaurants here in Seattle....and then lots of drinking into the wee-hours of the morning!!!!!! (i know...that's not very friday-advent-like....but this is a DREAM, people!)
:: Saturday----a FIELD TRIP to the warehouse sale at Big Dipper!!!!@#$%^%$#$%^& Irish Cream Coffee and Hot-buttered Rums for EVERYONE!!! We then convince Big Dipper to begin making beautiful and lovely Mary/Jesus Candles and little wax baby Jesus for us!
Doesn't that sound FUN????!!!!!!!

I really need to order these next year. We bought locally this year, but I didn't realize that they would be "rolled" when I ordered them, and they are terribly drippy and won't last
How often do they have their sales? Will they likely go on sale after Christmas so I can get a set for next year (maybe two in order to combine shipping?).

Sign up for their enewsletters, Lindsay. I get periodic emails from them that alert me of their sales.
We are enjoying our Big Dipper Wax Works candles for the second year in a row this year. Merciful heavens my kitchen smells delightful with the beautiful candles on our hanging Advent wreath!!!

I'm so tempted to just buy these from Williams-Sonoma since they are what my husband says were in our wreath for the past 10 years. We didn't light them every night every Advent, but they really have lasted SO well, and the white makes them versatile for all my candle needs. We just had some purple and pink ribbons on them for Advent. I could even remove the ribbons and use them the rest of the season and year putting fresh ones in for Advent.

I have eyed those for years and years, Lindsay. Do it now, keeping them white, while they are little. If you establish colored candles and then change, the children will revolt. TRADITION!!!!!

Yes I got three sets from Big Dipper when they were discounted a few years ago (In the summer maybe? I can't remember) so I still have one more set left for next year. I do love how they smell.
I really want to learn to make them myself.

Bumping this...I know it's a little late, but I'm wondering if anyone found a new place to get beeswax candles?
I saw that these Dominican sisters make some.
Does anyone use non-colored ones?

We use white novena candles (the glass pillar kind) that I made purple and rose sleeves for. I could definitely see doing that for plain-colored beeswax candles--you could use those wax decorating sheets to make a large strip of color around the center/bottom. (We use a beeswax pillar and those sheets to make our Easter candle each year.)

And so starts the annual bump of this popular thread...
According to the website they are already sold out for this year. There is a BIG need for real beeswax Advent candles that needs to be filled. Wish more companies were doing this.
