I had my ds read the book on our way to Cardiff (captive audience). Even though they are teenagers, they loved the book. And my dh (who attended Catholic schools his whole life) did not remember learning about the Berlin airlift. He enjoyed the book as well.

I have to share with you all what happened.
I just spoke with Gail Halvorsen on the phone - and he called US!
He mentioned how appreciative he was to receive our package and that we have raised 4 awesome children.
He also mentioned that he had written us another letter!
When my kids received their letter from him, they had wondered if they could write him back. He said he would like it very much!
So, now, we're in touch with a real hero from our Nation's history.
I told him how much we appreciate what he did for our country and for his service. He said that meant alot to him.
God is so good. What a real blessing!

Whoooooo hooooooo - we just got his second letter!
He writes,
"My dear P**** Family,
I really appreciate your marvelous letters. I especially like the many kisses you sent for me. As good as they are, I liked the letters better! Thank you.
I stayed with Mercedes in Berlin last May. She has a wonderful family.
What a great family you are! Follow your dreams!

Chocolate Unit study

Just saw that there is a new children's biography out about Gail Halvorsen, published just last month. I just requested it from the library.
