Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm trying to PM everyone, but I've only successfully PMed one person (don't know why), will try again later. The list is here

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheSeasonalKitchen-Fall/

if you just want to join that way. Otherwise send me an e-mail at stefoodie AT gmail DOT com.

Here's the first recipe, for St. Peter Claver's Day (September 9, today):

St. Peter Claver's Day

Revuelto de Setas

(adapted from The Food of Northern Spain by Jenny Chandler -- St. Peter Claver is from Catalonia)

8 oz mushrooms
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 garlic clove, crushed and minced
6 large eggs, beaten lightly and seasoned with salt
2 tablespoons cream (optional)
Toast bread, for serving

This is really a spring dish according to Ms. Chandler, but since mushrooms are usually plentiful in the US, we can do this in the fall.

If you can get a mixture of different kinds of mushrooms, that's ideal, but if not, use whatever mushroom you have. You can also use dried mushrooms, rinsed, rehydrated and squeezed dry (use the soaking liquid for stocks).

Wipe mushrooms clean (or if you want, wash them briefly). Trim stem ends and cut them into randomly sized pieces -- that makes them look extra-rustic.

Heat oil in a large skillet. Add mushrooms and garlic and stir-fry for five minutes, over low-medium heat. Add beaten eggs and continue cooking, stirring all around, just until eggs begin to set. You're aiming for a creamy, custardy consistency, not dry.

Serve over toast.

Stef,

How will the yahoo group work?

Each recipe a post?

I didn't see anything there yet?

I would really like to do this! There are so many times I would like to try something new but it can take so long to look for new ideas I just make the same old thing.

Thanks,
Barb

Hi all. I don't have everyone there yet, only those of you whose e-mail addy I have. So if you haven't yet, please come and join, or send me an e-mail and I'll add you.

Yes, Jodie, each recipe will be one post. I'll post it thus:

Topic/Event:Recipe Title

so people can go through the archives and just search accordingly.

I'll try to post recipes on "day of", but no guarantees ... my goal is to get all 100 recipes on there for the whole season -- some days I might post more than others. I'll have little extras on the files section as well, for little recipes that go with the season but are more like springboard-recipes or variations on one thing (i.e., basic vinaigrette with ideas for fall), and basic building blocks (i.e., how to make chicken stock).

I'm also open to suggestions/requests!

To clarify on how the Yahoo Group will work: You will post a recipe, we'll reply to that post to leave feedback if we give it a try?

As far as message delivery goes...Will all of your recipe posts be of the "Special Notices" variety from the moderator? I'm just trying to figure out which "Message Delivery" option I want to sign up for to keep this manageable. I want to get all the recipes, but not necessarily read everyone's feedback for recipes that we won't be making.

Individual Email:
The option to choose if you want to get each group message and special notice individually and immediately, as it is posted.
Daily Digest:
The option to choose if you want to see all messages but limit the amount of email you receive. We'll compile an email of up to 25 messages and send daily (special notices too!).
Special Notices:
Receive only important email notices from the group moderator.
Web Only:
Don't get notified of the latest happenings. Read messages only on the web.

FYI: I was glad to see your first recipe called for 6 eggs becuase we still have a lot of them!

Hi Stephanie

leaving in a few mins, but if this is not clear PM me or i'll clarify tonight

I'll be posting to the group. Feedback is set to be sent only to me, that way we don't clutter everyone's mailboxes. I'll edit the posts and add feedback if I feel that it will be useful to the final compilation, otherwise at the end of the season there really only should be 100 posts in the archives and that's it (100 posts = 100 recipes). e.g., if several people tell me their kids hated something, I probably won't include it!
