I was away in the Catskills with my extended family this weekend...when I read Saturday's paper, I read an article about a boy who had drowned..I didn't realize it was MaryEllen's dear son till I reached the boy's name. I am so very sorry for the whole Barrett family. They are in my prayers, as well as my whole extended family's prayers.

Alice at Cottage Blessings posted a portion of a touching letter that Mary Ellen wrote.
As well, Chris has posted here on ways to make an offering in the name of Ryan Barrett if someone should feel called to do that.

Thank you for the update. My heart aches for this family.
I think of Ryan, shining bright and healthy before the throne of God, and I am sure he is in peace. Probably not resting. Probably having the time of his life.

Continued prayers. I recently read this poem for the first time. Seems appropriate for Ryan with the mention of music and angels.
The Dying Child

I finally have had enough strength to read through this thread and I am so heartened and humbled by all of you good and holy women who prayed for David and I through the horrible week of Ryan's death.
I want to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and I want you all to know that each and every utterance was of monumental importance and without those prayers I don't know how we would have survived.
It is has been a horrible time but also, strangely, filled with joy. Ryan is joyful in heaven and already his intercessions have been many. I am truly comforted by knowing that while I can't have him, Our Lady can.
David and I miss Ryan with a physical pain that is hard to describe but his light shines brightly from heaven. I urge you all to ask him to pray for you, your children and your intentions. I told God that if he must needs have my child then I would spend my earth putting Ryan to work for us here.
Our Bishop closed Ryan's funeral Mass with the exhortation to ask the "little priest" to pray for vocations. Please do that. Perhaps many of our sons will hear the call to a priestly life through Ryan's intercession.
As a mother I could ask for nothing better than to have a saint in heaven. Except that I want him here. Now. I struggle but I know that God and his Blessed Mother are cherishing us.
Your continued prayers would be greatly appreciated and we are forever grateful for the loving care you have held us in.
