Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm late to this, but I've been praying since I saw it land in my inbox this morning, Michelle! Prayers coming that their evening is smooth with no sugar spikes or dips! May Our Lady assist you as you tend to them and their needs!

Well, even though I gave them both less insulin at dinner they went low again at bedtime.

I gave them both hearty snacks before bed so hopefully that will keep them up through the night. I may not be sleeping much though . . .

Thank you all for the prayers! They held through the night --thanks be to God--and yesterday was better, a few lows and some highs but more normal --not that there is a "normal".

I was talking to a friend at Mass yesterday who is a Dr. and he and his wife just got back from helping at a diabetes camp (T1). He told me how he was so surprised at the craziness of this disease and how he didn't realize it was like this.

He talked about how a child would have a perfectly fine blood sugar number at breakfast, have a normal breakfast and get their regular does of insulin but then at lunch be over 400 for no apparent reason. I said "Yep! Happens all the time --drives me crazy!" And it happened just minutes after we were talking. Matthew was fine at breakfast, and when I checked him after mass he was 477! He (my Dr. friend) told how many of the kids said they had been yelled at by medical staff for their blood sugar numbers and how some of them had started falsifying the numbers in their logs so they wouldn't get in trouble. That's SO wrong but it shows you how little even the medical community understands this disease.

Our Dr. is great, he never makes a big deal about the numbers but I do get the "look" from the dietitians. It's so nerve wracking --as if I don't have enough guilt already!

Off to Mass. I'll offer it for Maggie and Matthew and for yourself.
