I had a "trinity" - Laura, a rag doll my mum sewed me; Princess, a toy dog mum bought me when my dad was away in France; and Baby Bunting, a bean bag doll I was given for my first Christmas. I still have them, but after about 5 years of marriage dh persuaded me to pack them away.... so they now live in the attic - and I still sometimes feel anxiety because they are zipped in a storage bag (with air to breathe ) and nobody changes their clothes and loves on them.

My first doll, which I drove around in the basket on my bike, was named Drowsy. But, when I looked up drowsy doll, I got the picture of the "Real" drowsy doll that Mary posted! I must have heard the name and figured my doll was "Drowsy," too. But her body was solid and she had wild auburn hair!
God Bless,

We didn't have a lot of toys either, I too, lived out in the country, had a horse and tons of dogs, and stayed out a lot. I was an early reader, and read like crazy most summers. I did like my friend's Barbies, but they were fun to "set up" but then I didn't "know" what to do next . Most of the things I liked were competitive, like air hockey or playing softball. OH, wait a minute!!! I LOVED my Easy Bake Oven....the original....I had to laugh when someone said they were telling their age with the Cabbage Patch Doll....I sold them at the toy store I worked at in high school...yeah, I'm old!!
Great Thread!!

I didn't play with baby dolls, never liked stuffed animals, didn't do the Mommy stuff. I did love playing paper dolls and non-Barbies, like Quick Curl Francie (she was flatter chested). She was my favorite.

My second sister and I played with Mrs. Beasley and Indian Girl. Couldn't find a link for her.

What a fun post!
I loved my Tender Love Baby...at least I loved her until we made her into Tender Love TAR-Baby at a construction site we played in as children!
I also loved my Big Wheel...once I could reach the peddles...
And, I loved my Lemon-Head...it had a loop on one end that you put your foot through and a weighted plastic lemon on the other end that you jumped over...we would play with that for hours!

I didn't have Mrs. Beasley, but I looked it up and these are the things she said: (do they look accurate?)
Do you want to play?
Gracious me, you’re getting to be such a big girl!
If you could have three wishes, what would you wish for?
I do think you’re the nicest friend I ever had!
Would you like to try on my glasses? You may if you wish.
It would be such fun to play jump rope, don’t you think?
If you were a little smaller, I could rock you to sleep
Do you want to hear a secret? I know one!
Speak a little louder dear, so Mrs. Beasley can hear you
You may call me Mrs. Beasley, would you like to play?
Long ago, I was a little girl, just like you!

Mine has to be my "broken neck" doll. (She didn't have a broken neck, originally, but my brother grabbed her hair and tried to pull her away from me once, making her more like a "real" baby, who needs her head supported) I can't believe she doesn't have a name, but when I look at all my old dolls and stuffed animals that the girls play with, now, she is the last thing I would part with. Grandma sewed her clothes and dad made her cradle. (I found her - she's a 1977 Fisher Price My Baby Beth)
I am waiting for my kids to be "old enough" to play with my old Lite Brite. Right now I have visions of colored pegs ALL OVER the floor.
When I was older, I have to admit that I really liked my Barbies. I have 3 + my brother's Ken doll, the Barbie Bubbling Spa, and the Barbie Dream Kitchen. Another toy with too many little parts for the girls right now...
