My favorite meal, when I was little, was:

1 pound ground beef, browned and drained
1 can tomato sauce and 1 can tomato paste, or double for stretching!
1 can of water in tomato paste can for each can of paste
3 tablespoons of chili powder

Lots of rice!

Cook the prepared meat, tomato sauces and pastes, and chili powder on stove, until nicely melded.

Cook rice.

Serve rice and add meat sauce over it.

Takes about 1/2 hour, max.

Lentils cook up like rice - 1 c. lentils, 2 cups water. Boil for 1 minute, cook on low for 20 minutes.

Then just stir it in! Or you can mash them up first.

This weekend I made spaghetti sauce with 1 pound of italian sausage, 1 c. lentils cooked in 2 cups of water. Browned the sausage, added lentils, added crushed and diced tomatoes and spices. Easy!

I have a recipe for lentil enchiladas that talks about how to cook lentils and rice as a sub for ground beef, on my blog on the sidebar.
