I was just thinking tonight that homemade doggie treats might be good for the doggie lover......
Here's a link to some recipes.

I've just started planning. I think I'm doing napkins and placemats for my in-laws, a new something knit for my neice (who will be born in September!), and hats for my boys and husband. I'm planning to make a few capes for the boys to play with while dressing up too. I always buy or make new pajamas to wear on Christmas Eve each year; this year I'm making them. I'm sure something else will get added to the "Mama can you please make me . . . ?" pile. :)
For Christmas decorating I'm making new Christmas stockings this year and planning a fabric holiday wreath for the front door.
I've alsohad these tutorials bookmarked for awhile and have wild ideas of making these too . . .

The blog Sew, Mama, Sew is doing a special series of posting this week "Christmas in July". Today's post is a compliation of a ton of various ideas to make for Christmas gifts. I thought of the ladies here who are busy making their lists too and thought I'd share.

Last year I made lots of stuff for the kids--capes, bean bags, a bean bag frog and lily pad game, felt food, babydoll slings, marker roll-ups, a baby doll "miracle blanket", "I-spy" bags, and appliqued t-shirts (just a number of the age they currently were.)

Cactus mouse,
I am a brand new knitter and think this is a great idea. I think I can do this, can't wait to try! You mentioned the sugar n' cream yard, I'll going to look for that. Is it a type of yard (acryllic, etc... that you recoend for washclothes? |

Here's the sugarn' cream website so you can get an idea of what it looks like. They have TONS of different colors available (although it doesn't look as if they show a whole bunch on the site).
A few weeks ago AC Moore had a sale...99cents per skein! I picked up a bunch of them.
For wash cloths I'd recommend 100% cotton, that's what I use. It works great! |

Thanks Jen, sorry I addressed this to cactus mouse! I'm looking forward to trying this!

Just finished my first present, the napkins and placemats for my mom and step dad. It feels good to have something accomplished already.
Next up is a robe for my niece. She is 12 and I was shocked at the perfect fabric I found for her at JoAnn's today. Her favorite colors are orange and pink and she loves monkeys. I found a super soft flannel that is pink and orange flowers with monkeys!! I couldn't believe my luck!

I love the ideas that have been listed here so far! How is everyone doing with their gift-making?
My dd and I have bought some fabric to make the napkins and placemats.
Also, we're thinking of making the fabric covers for the filing crates that someone mentioned in another thread.
But, we are at a loss for things to sew for the guys in the family.
Any ideas?

Somehow I missed this thread the first time around. I've been stumped for weeks for an idea for my mom and her dh. I think napkins are going to be a part of their gift. These are lovely!
I have a suggestion, too. Yesterday I made one of these Ampad notepads (thank you, Jen for the idea and encouragement!). I covered it with cute scrapbook paper and a scripture that is dear to me. It turned out gorgeous. It occurred to me that this would be a lovely and very personal gift for those people on your list that you want to do something small for...a sil or cousin who also homeschools, or a grandma who could use a pretty phone pad, etc.
Another idea would be to decorate it with gorgeous Christmas papers and maybe a holy card image of the Holy Family and then present it as a Christmas Journal? My family keeps one of these. Someone in the family, anyone old enough to write, has to take the time once or twice during Advent to write down what we did, what what we are planning to eat for Christmas Eve, who got to put baby Jesus in the manger (this is a coveted position so everyone wants to know who did it last year and whose turn it is ) etc. Its really neat now to look back on it and see my now 16 yr old's 11 yr old handwriting and thoughts.

What a great idea!!! This would be wonderful for my SIL who gives the best gifts but has everything. Last year I made these pillowcases that I bought from Michaels with my coupons each week. I made them for the women and my FIL wants his own so I found a very masculine pattern of paisley for him this year.
Another awesome idea that we are working on is Charlotte (Matillda)'s Saints and Stiches. I copied the image with a hot irom transfer pencil onto muslin and then sewed that onto a darker fabric after the girls stitched their St. Therese picture and then sewed the whole thing onto an apron for grandma!!! This has been a huge hit and the girls are so proud of their first project for grandma.
Lots of sewing projects for Christmas this year!
I'm with Books, how did I miss this thread in July?
