Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The moon landing was in the middle of the night over here in the UK. I was nearly nine and was allowed to stay up to watch it. I don't remember anything much about the actual landing, just the staying up late bit

Okay, that is really neat - better get that ornament out this week

In fact today is the anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch.

Didn't I hear in the last year or so that the "one small step" quote was actually "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." ??
That makes sense. I've always wondered about that and maybe it's why I mess up the quote sometimes, it doesn't quite make sense since man used like that (without the article) could also equate with mankind anyway.

But haven't you ladies heard of the conspiracy theory that it didn't happen at all?! It was all staged in a studio!
Yes, that is what I was referring to with the info about my grandfather thinking it was "boolsheet." Lots of people believe it was a hoax. There is some very interesting reading out there, especially with the vastness of the internet...

All of you who weren't allowed to have Tang because it was too expensive or unhealthy are making me feel bad . My mom was the most frugal person I know and also pretty health conscious in general. I think those marketers must have done a pretty good number on her in order for her to buy it for us. It was treat - we didn't have it all the time, but oh, the memories of it associated with that time and the "space age" really are fun.

Wow that you have brought this up Mary! I was just talking to dh about this today thanks to this great Catholic video on you tube:    Imagine

When I showed dh he said, "I remember exactly where I was"..and I can't remember where that WAS now and he's just walked out the door for the night shift, so I can't ask him either!

I wasn't around at that point, I had a couple more years before I made my entrance into this big ole' world!

I was in utero as well.   But one of the sweetest stories my mom told me was how she walked outside after watching the moon walk and looked up at the moon and thought "my baby will grow up in a world where people have walked on the moon."

YES!!!!! I remember those. I loved them!!!!!

My mom's cousin worked at Kennedy Space Center, I don't remember in what capacity. And a close friend of mine in high school just left NASA. She's been in space twice, but only dropped one tool bag!

I was 6 years old, and spent the night with a friend that night. I remember watching it on a black and white TV (hardly anyone had color then) and her dad, professional photographer, set up a camera on a tripod and took pictures of the TV shots!

I had totally forgotten about those space food sticks but I can almost taste them in my mind now! Yes, I remember peanut butter as one of our favorites!

We never had tang either but at one of my friends' houses, they used it to make "russian tea" - instant tea and tang and something else - cinnamon?

I was a year and a half old and living in Venezuela.

I remember nothing.

Hey - I could be in politics with that quote!
