I'm also not sure that a caffeine habit is not actually a contributor to migraine-proneness, even if it seems sometimes to help an acute headache.

You might find it interesting that if I have caffiene without a migraine I end up with constant headaches and when they get to migraine level (any headache will eventually trigger a migraine for me) the caffiene does nothing for them.
When I'm not drinking caffiene (very easy to do when it hurts to do so), I can use ONLY caffiene to knock out a migraine.

My addiction has been Dr. Pepper and I started to be sick every time I had soda of any kind, plus I was having a lot of issues with insomnia and I made other diet changes too to help that problem. To cut it I had to go cold turkey and *never* have it in the house. I used excedrin to manage the headache (that lasted for ages!) I still drink soda, but now it's only when we go out (which isn't very often) or whenever I make enchiladas. I don't know why, but we have always had soda with enchiladas! Anyway, I feel much better now and I'm actually sleeping at night now. :)

I've been trying really really really hard, to cut out/off the caffeine in this house (I don't drink coffee, period. Ever. Love the smell, hate the taste). DH wants to always have coke in the house (or pepsi--same same)...I've been making sun tea lately, and that seems to help. Plus it is cheaper, lol. I need to cut it out completely, for my health and wellbeing.
I'm trying to drink more water, as well, and that helps. But I can easily drink an entire gallon of sweet tea, or a two liter of coke by myself...Yeah. I've got a caffeine addiction. (I like the sugar, and that is where the health problems come in, but the caffeine is what I am addicted to, and gives me the nastiest headaches on the planet. UGH. Which makes cutting them out difficult...).

You could try diluting your coke with a lot of ice!! Then make sure you drink the ice too when it's melted! That helped me cut back for sure!

You ladies are so inspiring!
I have been soda-free for FOUR MONTHS!
And I still crave it.
That right there is so depressing to me!
I have actually had to cut most SUGAR all together...I thought it was the cafeine I was addicted to, but it was the sugar. I read a book called Potatoes Not Prozac on the symptoms of sugar addiction and realized it described me to a T.
Anyway, I need to try the LIME, thanks for the tip!! I'm so hoping that will work for me!!

Another tip for those who struggle with increasing water intake, while cutting down on caffeine...try putting an herbal tea bag in a bottle or glass of water! You can refill the water all day and the tea bag gives just enough flavor to the water to make it a really great-tasting, healthy alternative to caffeinated drinks or pop. I really like Celestial Seasoning's Cinnamon Apple Spice or Candycane Lane (which they only offer during the Christmas season). Most mint teas taste great this way! It's fun to test different flavors or even coordinate them with whatever food you might be having along with it!
I've always enjoyed caffeine tea in the morning but recently gave it up because I suspected it was contributing to increased hypoglycemia symptoms. Now I substitute a glass of milk for the tea...I haven't really missed the tea nearly as much as I thought I would. It helped that I had already given up sugar in my tea a few years ago.
Giving up all sugar and caffeine, for the sake of handling the hypoglycemia, has been easier than I thought. After a week I really didn't crave either...at least not like I thought I would. I agree with Candace...I think the sugar in pop may be even more addictive than the caffeine.
