Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I started a blog recently on a new domain my husband gave me for a birthday gift. Originally my desire to blog was mostly inspired by those day-to-day homeschooling blogs a lot of ladies from here have, but then I became reluctant to make public the daily learning notes. I don't have anything terribly inspiring to share right now so it just seemed unnecessary. And I don't want to be exactly anonymous, but I haven't put "Firstname Lastname, Town, State" in the "about" either.

I used to have no problem with posting first names and photos of my kids on the public Web, although I would not post, say, b*thtub p*cs even without the pr*vate areas visible. In considering posting my kids' names or photos, I would think about how there are stories in local newspapers that will give a child's full name and age along with a photo, whether the kid is just one participant in an Easter egg hunt or a dance recital, or is being featured for some more in-depth personal interest story. Isn't that giving info to potential predators too, and local ones? I couldn't see a reason to be so private about those things when we take our kids out to play and call them by their real names even though we don't know all the neighbors who could be observing them, either.

But when I saw this blog post, even though I am already very aware of Google and I would already have refrained from posting even the words she did that led to someone finding her blog through those search terms (it sounds like the actual picture in the post she describes may not have been anything like it at all,) it just made me want to err even more on the side of caution. I'm not saying people should never post any pictures of their kids or their names, it's just how I have ended up feeling about the potential of drawing the interest of someone creepy.

I've been calling the boys by their initials. And I haven't posted pictures of the people in our family so far, except the back of my baby's head and her finger pointing up at the fireworks on July 4. I might change that policy, but you asked if we had any thoughts, so I just sort of poured mine out
