Anne - I was so pleased to read this so that I could finally post that video on my blog! Absolutely lovely picture and video. My kids have been enjoying your accent.
I am trying to research telephone plans here - I think you told me about Skype - still need to research. I will have to look at Carole's suggestions. I got something in the mail about Vonage too - so will look at this. I know my inlaws call us for free - they use something called talktalk in the UK I think? Right now we just have Verizon with the ability to call the UK and Canada.
As for my accent Anne - mixture of British/French/South African/American. I have been told I sound Welsh sometimes too!! I think I code switch - so start talking like the person I am talking as well!!

Is that what it's called? I'm not sure if this counts, but my Texas twang certainly becomes more pronounced when I am with someone who has a much stronger accent than mine. But even listening to Colleen's soft Louisiana accent seems to make it harder to hold my twang back.
We have extended family that just love Skype! I think it's a free service.

Great to hear your voice!!!
I agree with the above mentioned, SKYPE is great! We use it when my mom travels and will use it today with her in Australia The only thing that is really hard is the time difference, I mean really 14 hours is just crazy to wrap your mind around

I agree as I yawn sleepily and head off to bed. While most of you have risen to a new day, the same day that for me has already been spent and gone.
Sometimes I like being ahead of time, other times, especially when it comes to other ladies fantastic, last minute ideas for a feast day, I have to wait until the next year comes around!

I'm late seeing this...but LOVED IT!!!! It was so neat to hear your voice, Anne!!!!!!! You're absolutely adorable!!! And, I confess, I liked the last clip - the one of you holding little Annuncia...I think that's little Annuncia anyway! So precious!
It's nice seeing and hearing the real person behind the keyboard!

That's funny, I always thought Marilyn's lovely accent sounded most like an Australian one even though it's not. Guess I need more exposure to the variety of non-American English-speaking accents.
My computer is so creakily slow, I haven't even attempted the video yet, but my interest has certainly been piqued!

This was great! And don't feel badly about all the takes, once I spent almost an hour with two of my children trying to record a greeting for our answering machine! We all kept getting the giggles

I didn't think it was typically Australian sounding because we have strong accents too, to me it sounded very cultured with no strong accent of any sort. That's why I thought it was probably a mix. She sounded like a voice I'd hear from time to time IN Australia, as we are very multicultural. It didn't sound foreign for that reason.

I don't feel so bad after reading your post Chris, 'cause it reminds me that we've giggled over the very same thing!!

Skype is indispensable for keeping in touch across many miles, and yes, it is free. It's even better with a webcam.
Anne, it was so neat to see you talking! I've seen your pictures on your blog, and been reading your comments for years now, but having a voice to put to it all is wonderful!
