Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

You might want to consider some historical biographies.

This one on Abe Linocoln was very good and of course Farmer Boy is a must read!

I know you did sports last month already, but just read this new book last night - Family Huddle about the Manning brothers. My son who loves the Manning brothers, gave it . While the "writing" isn't great, it is a really sweet book - reinforces brotherly bonds, celebrates sport, and honors family. And they call their grandpa, PaPa . The book is written by the three Manning brothers and dedicated to their grandparents.

Thanks Mary! We've moved onto soldiers. But there are a few library holds trickling in... and since it's such a popular topic... The boys never refuse a story. And you got me on PaPa.

Since this is sort of the "sports unit" picture book thread - a couple other new books that cover the history of basketball. Really well done.

Hoop Genius: How a Desperate Teacher and a Rowdy Gym Class Invented Basketball (John Coy)

Basketball Belles: How Two Teams and One Scrappy Player Put Women's Hoops on the Map (Sue Macy)
