Sigh...we still don't know for sure but it does look like we're going. There is still a chance that the whole operation will be based in Denver instead of Salt Lake. NOw that would work nicely, wouldn't it Mary and Kim?

Good grief! Talk about waiting and trusting! Such lessons...
I know you know that it will fall into place according to God's will.

Mmm. Denver's nice, and folks are friendly. The nature study is top-notch, too!

Elizabeth,
Just a quick word of encouragement, may it be God's will
wherever you are led. My husband and I are on the welcoming committee at our parish, and we recently welcomed a couple from Utah. I asked about the Mormon's
and they informed me that the Catholic Church is the fastest growing church in Utah. Maybe there is hope?
Denver is also home to a awesome Bishop Chawpuit(sp).
If you do move out West..
Blessings,

Yes, we are very blessed to have Archbishop Chaput as our local shepherd. In fact, he will be confirming my 13 year old son tomorrow evening.

Elizabeth, I feel for your mixed feelings, you are blessed to be getting such great support. I thought I would add something about the utah catholic list and there being only 7 members. I live in a strong Catholic, and LARGE homeschooling community, and until 1.5 yrs ago I had never heard of this list, and there are MANY wonderful faithful families here that have no idea about these types of groups on line, and some do but don't feel justified in spending the time on the computer. My point is Gods people are everywhere, I lived in Durango Co. right at the 4 corners for a while and the area is breathtakingly beautiful. You will be so BLESSED to be surrounded by Gods beauty, and the wonderful friends just waiting to meet you. This is a wonderful oppurtunity for humility, and growth....AHHHH to go back to the west(Calif. living in Ohio). You will find your niche and LOVE it out west....very exciting

Elizabeth,
Praying for peace in your lives about whatever God's will for your family is.
We've moved several times in the course of our marriage. There have been times when I wondered why, why, why we were "stuck" in one place, or plopped down in another. In retrospect, I see God's hand in everything: In remote western Nebraska I drew close to Christ and was baptized ... in a tiny town in northeast Nebraska, I became a Catholic ... still "stuck" in that tiny town, five years later, Tom met the right friend and the right priest to help draw him into the Church as well.
And, even though God has seen fit to take away all of my very closest friends (I've had four people very dear to me move away in the last five years) I know He has a purpose, and He keeps providing for our needs. Not always for all of my wants, but definitely my needs, and the needs of the kids.
I know you trust Him -- I don't have to tell you that ... it's just hard, sometimes and emotional to have to go through all of this. Prayers for you and your family....

Visitors from New York are mighty fine too!
Elizabeth, I can relate to your anxiety. We recently moved (not nearly so far but far enough from our support group and parish to not be connected), and that was after 2 failed contracts on our house and making offers on 3 other houses! My dh now has a 20 min. commute instead of an hour. A happier husband who's home is a wonderful blessing.
I lived in Salt Lake City for a while as a girl. Since my dad was a science teacher studying for his master's degree we had a lot of field trips around the area. I seem to remember lots mineral rich nature studies; Salt Lake, salt flats, topaz digging, rock hunting, fossils, etc. He's still giving out rocks and crystals to the grandkids from his jars in the garage
In the words of JPII: "Be not afraid!"

After weeks and weeks of discernment, we are not moving to Utah. There are still possibilities in the wild West, but, for now, it's a no go. I so appreciate your prayers. And I also appreciate the advice, both on the board and privately. Now, we're back to the original problem which is way too much travel. We're recognizing that, as our first child prepares to go to college, we don't have the geographic or financial freedom to go out on a limb that we might have had five years ago. It's a bit of a pickle. I've prayed so hard about all of this that I can't believe that the solution is the status quo, so, I'm a little anxious to see what's in store for us.

Elizabeth,
I'm sure it's a relief to have made a decision. I know it's not very exciting to stay where you are, with the same issues your family has always faced, but I know you and your family have made the best possible decision.
We always feel kind of let down when the Navy sends us back to some place we've already lived...it happens a lot. The nice part is that we know the issues we will face. The hard part is dealing with the same old "stuff".
We'll all be praying, of course, as you begin to plan for College Parenting 101. There's a whole new world out there for your family, as everyone discovers the fun of supporting (emotionally and spiritually, especially) a family member in college.
I definitely know what it's like to be a temporary single parent. I can really understand your frustration with the travel issue. (My dh is gone again, third or fourth week in a row - I can't even remember how many weeks!) I'll be praying that there's some relief to the travel situation so that you and dh can enjoy some time together...
Hugs,
Nancy

Excellent work, Foss Family . You have processed well through some of the most difficult stuff a family can face together. We will continue to pray for solutions to your pickle.
Now onto a selfish woman's take on things...boo hoo..Virginia's continued gain is the west's loss ! Although I can't wrangle everything to my liking here on earth, the promise of heaven keeps me hopeful and joyful...phew .
Love,

Elizabeth, we'll keep praying for answers and guidance. I know what you mean about feeling that the current situation can't be all that's in store! Have faith and patience (I'm saying this to myself as much as to you!) -- I know that God will provide and grant you peace. Your family does so much and your plate is always so full -- I tell Tim all the time that I don't know how you do it!

Something else has come up. Same people, no move, more security, still travel. It's not perfect but it's a great stepping stone. Keep praying. Oh, and Alice and MacBeth, apparently it's a stepping stone to NY, a couple of years down the road .
