Whoa! Are you sure? Do you think its really that bad? Maybe I should cut back too.
I didn't add anything religious, and maybe that's my problem.
I'm going to try to pray the rosary daily, one decade for each of my five children.
Monthly confession.
I'm also going to do the first Saturdays, again-We've only done it once.
This is so inspiring reading everybody's!

Honestly, I don't know. I don't intellectually think it's that bad. Research doesn't bear it out. For me, it's that bad:
1.It really makes me cranky.
2. I only like it with lots of cream and sugar.
3. I like it best when someone else makes it for me, exactly the way I like it, preferably with some fun syrup, and serves it with a smile. This makes it expensive.
4. I never had a weight problem until Starbucks opened in the neighborhood. Could be coincidence...
I've given it up for four months before and saw no difference in weight, but I really think I'm finished this time. Besides, as my husband points out, I'm heavily invested in

Then may I suggest a wonderful item to add to your wish list?
Personalized Rosaries
I received my first pair of these lovely rosaries when we had five children. Such a perfect reminder to pray for each one individually by name.

I wrote mine down earlier today at my blog:
2006 New Year Resolutions
I've never been one for writing them down because I generally don't keep them. But I found it really was a good meditative practice to think about it and note it.
Makes it more concrete somehow.

I've answered my own question -- with a big WHACK on the head !
My home page is MyCatholic.com -- this lovely site lets me choose the content I want including:
- Saint of the Day
- Reflections from the Saints
- Scripture Verse of the Day
- Life in Christ (excerpt from the Catechism)
- Mass Readings for the Day
now I can meditate on these each morning
As a side note, I tried the MaryVitamin email that someone suggested on another board, but it came into my mailbox in the afternoon for that day; I really would like something like this in the wee hours of the morning when I can pray before the kids are up....homeschooling is occuring....meals are being made .... and general mayhem ensues .

Cay,
Wonderful resolutions!!! I really liked your blog too! I decided I just don't have time to make a blog, but I am going to journal this year. I love reading other blogs though!

Oh gosh! I have such ordinary resolutions. I am totally committed to losing 35 pounds by July 1 (it's my brother's wedding date and I want to fit into prepregnancy clothes ~ I mean sizes, I don't actually have pre-Alex clothes!). I think that the time and weight that are involved are doable, no? I've never tried to lose weight by a certain time before. I just luckily got ill and the weight sort of sloughed off. Maybe I'll get sick in May...? We are trying to eat healthier as a family (less meat, more beans, even tofu, though I have to introduce it only every so often and in a sneaky way).
I tried at one time to say two mysteries a day to include a family member for every decade, but I just can't do it. I get sleepy from the rhythm. I think I'll just stick to resolving to pray one a day (even that's had to become a resolution since Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas have knocked me out of whack).
I would like to teach my children Christianity more by them following my example this year.
And one more ... throughout this process of my husband finding a new career (he's retiring from the military) and us moving and settling in who-knows-where, I'm resolved to NOT add pressure to his already stressed out life. But please, *do* pray for us!
God bless,

My resolutions:
- to be much better about my priorities as far as time. Should I really be on the comupter when a load of laundry three days old needs to be folded?
Hmmm...no. More later!

Ooooh...Can I be in on this? Only, I'm not catching up. I have to START scrapbooking.

I'm wigged out as well. My brother's cancer cells are high, according to the hospital. He went in for a physical when they found this. I don't know what this all means. My dad told my husband, not me, so I didn't get to ask questions and am getting the information third-hand. However, I'm with you, Elizabeth. If we don't do it for ourselves, we owe our lives and health back to our children.

Oh gosh! I'm with you here, too. We've been in Europe for 3.5 years now and I haven't had a dental appointment yet! My kids had one in Germany and one here. They're batting a way better average than I am.
I have to go fix dinner. I love these resolutions. It makes me want to improve myself in ways I didn't think about before!
God bless,

OK I'm back. Besides trying to keep priorities in order - people, over household, over computer time...
Like many of you, I need work on being kind to my children more often. Like always. And not arguing. This one will be hard. My oldest is SO subtle that I don't realize I'm arguing with her until I've gone back and forth a few times and my anger is rising.
I also need to learn to be more generous. With my time, my things, my energy. No matter WHAT others in the house are doing.
And I want to declutter. Radically. And help (force ) my children to do the same. The more I read about being free of "things" the more I want to do that.
I'm going to try harder to consult the Holy Spirit in everything ... instead of my usally "make a huge mess out of things then call out for help"
Last but not least, I'm going to remember that God loves me more than I can understand, no matter WHAT I do and what mess I make of these resolutions. This is a recent realization in my life and it makes such a difference in how I go about serving Him.

I've been so impressed by all the resolutions here.
I have general and specific resolutions. Most echo what's here. My main goal -- application and perseverance in all that I do. I need to work on all areas, be a better wife, a better mother, better to myself. Specifics:
1) Home improvement: schedule better, keep to a cleaning and meal planning and shopping system. Use my daily planner and stick to it! Less computer time.
2) Get up some energy: I can't get up in the morning. I need to lose weight, eliminate some things from my diet and EXERCISE. We got a treadmill recently and I'm working out at least 3 x a week, and work in Pilates, too. I am hoping for another baby, and I need to be healthier.
3) Be a calmer, gentler mother. More floor time with ds.
4) Be a sweet wife, who HONORS her husband. In that area, REALLY work on the family budget, making his job easier. Be more thrifty for our family.
4) Daily journaling, spiritual reading and dedicated personal PRAYER TIME and daily family rosary. Try to get to daily Mass.
If I can successfully get my time under control, my other MUST do projects:
Scrapbooking (I'm WAY behind!)
Plan of action, outline and work on writing my book
Family Cookbook
Calligraphy projects
Knitting and sewing
House projects: removing wallpaper and painting, decluttering, purging some books and finding a place for everything.
I know the list is long and probably I will fall in many areas. I journaled my resolutions to write it down for myself, be accountable, collecting my thoughts for the year. All of these needs are nothing new, but I wanted to make sure I organized my priorities. I figure any improvement is better than nothing.
How about sending monthly reminders for people to check on progress of their resolutions?

I don't really call them resolutions. I call mine goals. I'm not making too many this year because I have a baby due in March. I think I'll set more goals in the summer. For now:
Scrapbook 2X/month (until Baby comes)
Journal in my scrapbooks once/wk
Learn more about the Catholic faith
Read classic literature
Daily prayer and meditation
Go to bed by 11:00 (hasn't started yet)
Get the house ready to sell (basically purging and packing stuff to hide at my husband's office)
I will put my school/children ideas on the other thread
And I have to say that I LOVE Cay's spouse-wise resolution and I'm going to post it on my fridge to remind me of it.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for the Catholic.com suggestion - what a gem! I just wanted to mention that I believe the moderator of the Mary Vitamin sends them to you the day before for meditation the following day. I usually print mine out before I go to bed & have it handy for the morning. HTH!

That I may decrease that He may increase.
I have to keep the list real small because I will be moving twice this year. Once this Monday to a rental home and then in June or so to new construction house. I'll be super happy to get through all of that...

OH ME TOO Elizabeth! This is so big for me. The logistics are dismaying -- doctors 60 miles away, 7 kids and then the post-traumatic stuff -- I'm so TIRED of medical stuff and uncovering new problems..... but I know I need to do it.
My resolutions sound so vague but they "ring" with me:
--Be aware of and do something about "avoidant" behavior (like putting off those stupid check-ups just because they make me feel queasy!)
--Focus on the daily details, and re-focus, and re-focus...
