Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I didn't think it was possible to say this but things got even worse.

Joshua's bladder now needs to be completely rebuilt. This is a long, invasive and painful procedure that uses a chunk of the colon. I guess they cut off the colon and turn it into the bladder. Since he doesn't have a kidney to keep the "new" bladder working I am going to have to catheterize him daily.

And our doctor informed that Josh has developed antibodies to every known protein in existence, an event soo rare that he has only seen one or 2 other children with this profile in 30 years and 3000 transplant patients. That means a second transplant will involve massive immunosuppression and tons of side effects.

So now my husband and I are left to discern is it better to leave a child on a stable course of dialysis for 20 years or so, or try one more time for a transplant knowing that the chances of dying from infection or cancer or lymphoma are growing by the day.

All I can pray is I believe Lord, help my unbelief because I just don't have the energy to say anymore at the moment.
Holly

Holly,
I can't imagine the enormity and the difficulty of the decision you and your husband now face! I know that God is sending tremendous graces to you both right now and I will beg for more because I trust that God is both generous and merciful!

May the Holy Spirit supply you with wisdom, courage, and fortitude for the road ahead so that you can make this decision in peace, doing what is best for Josh. I pray as well that Our Lady holds dear Josh close during the days to come!

God bless you, Holly!
