The same gown as my daughters, white satin, with lace, so tiny, and a little cap that came with it. I think I purchased it at J.C. Penny's.

My older two boys wore boy-ish outfits. One had a bubble, one had an Eton suit. The younger two boys had gowns.
I have made all of their christening gowns/outfits (boys' and girls') because neither my husband nor I had our own. Brian's folks borrowed his cousin's short-all set, and I was not baptised until age 12. I thought that it would be lovely to start each of their families with their own heirlooms. It dawned on me that my older boys wouldn't be able to hand their outfits down for daughters to wear (in the event they married and their wives didn't have one to use), so I made gowns for each of the younger boys.
Once grandbabies come along, I'm happy to make more gowns, if they are wanted.
Blessings,

My mother does something similar, Nissa. I think she bought the one we all used, but she has made a beautiful gown (each very unique) for each of her children, so that we can all have our family heirloom.
She even embroiders the name and date of the baptisms of the babies that wore the gown.

I feel a litte sad that our children are always going to be too old for a baptism gown as we adopt our children - but the good part is that the children actually remember their baptisms, which is a special gift in its own way. You ladies have such lovely heirlooms!

I was baptized at 7 months old so have a large dress... I had my son baptized at 3 weeks old (on his due date - he was 3 weeks early!) and he wore my gown! He swam in it of course, but it was so beautiful on him.
I never even thought about a suit until afterward, but I still would have gone with the gown - I'm a sap for tradition and heirlooms!

For our boys,...
#1 was baptized on a hot day in June, and we had a boy's baptism outfit, like someone mentioned earlier, with collar made of white linen. It was very sweet.
#2 was baptized on Super Bowl Sunday 1991. Cold and major snow that day, here in MI. He was also 3 mos. old (1 mo. older than first due to hospitalizations.) So we had a long traditional Baptism gown and a soft white sweater, inside of the bunting we carried him in and out of church in!
#3 also wore the same baptismal gown for his May baptism (he was too big to wear #1's outfit.)
#4 wore a different boy's white baptism outfit that his Godmother's son wore for his, just a few weeks earlier. That one was fashioned more like a onesy, but was very pretty with white on white embroidery and very soft, and that was in July. He would have roasted in a gown.
#5 was baptized on Dec. 23, again cold here in MI. I went out of character for his outfit. He had a little sleeper type of velour, that was a forest green with cream collar and feet. It kept him quite warm (he was 5 weeks.) The church we attended at that time really emphasized the putting on of the white bib on the babies at their baptisms, so I figured that would really stand out on the green. It worked quite well. (My mum was quite ill at this time, too, so I didn't have the luxury of running out and looking for anything different.)
#6 was baptized in Aug. and wore #4's outfit.
And now, I have them all placed into a box, waiting for grandchildren!
God Bless,
Stacy in MI

Oh I didn't even mention the weather.. the gowns we have used here are all lightweight and so appropriate for summer.. for colder weather the babies wear heavy tights (yes even the boys.. it's way more important that they stay warm) and a short sleeve onsies underneath and a white sweater over the top except during the actual baptism.. and I have a white blanket that we can also bundle them in.
