Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful replies. I was terribly disappointed to get my period last week, so I'm not pregnant after all. :( But, I'm going to bookmark this thread, because I know I'll need to re-read it when I do become pregnant w/ #4 (which I hope will be soon!)

A friend of mine once told me this true story...
There was a man who went out one morning with his 5 children...another man stopped him and said, "Are they all yours?"
The man replied in the affirmative.
Then, the dad of the 5 asked the other man, "How many do you have?"
He replied, "Two."
The man with the five then said, "Oh, I'm so sorry."

I am jumping in on this discussion a little late but I have found that when people ask how many children we have, if I answer "6... so far", the conversation usually ends there on a somewhat humorous note. People have to pause to get the meaning of the "so far" part!
I also wanted to comment on the NFP issue. My husband, Dan and I have been giving an NFP witness talk for our parish pre-cana for the last 10 years. We don't teach NFP, we try to show the reality of it in a Christian marriage. Last year one of the engaged couples made a rude comment to the effect that we weren't really the best spokespeople, because of our family size. It occurred to me that people were not understanding that the full nature of NFP is not only about preventing pregnancy ( by the way,I like to say postponing, not preventing... it leaves the door open)but it is really about discerning God's will for your marriage and family. I was inspired by the Holy Spirit, I believe, to address the fear that people have about having more children and I challenged them to find one place in God's Word that describes children as a curse, or something to be feared. In Holy Scripture children are repeatedly referred to as a blessing, a gift, a reward. We close our talk with this quote from scripture: Psalm 127 Verses3-5
Children too are a gift from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb, a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children born in one's youth.
Blessed are they whose quivers are full.
They will never be shamed
contending with foes at the gate.
Does this mean all are meant to have large families?? My personal belief is that we need to ask God to fill our quiver, no matter how large or small he may have made it... I think there is still some room in ours!
