Yesterday when we got to the hospital, they were getting her ready to go back down to Boston. I was pretty upset and cried a lot, but they kept insisting it was what was best. Dh and I went down with my father who is in town visiting, and stayed with baby for a couple hours.
The dr. who came to talk to us there made us feel so much better about things. I don't know if she just has a great bedside manner or what, but she just made us feel like they are capable. They have a dvd disc thing of the MRI that the neonatal neurologist is going to look at, and we should hear the results of that this morning, they're going to get some results on her "not normal" blood tests, and they have a feeding team who will work with her on eating. Interestingly, the dr. who did her exam upon arriving said she had great muscle tone. When we told them that back in NH they said she had low muscle tone they seemed surprised. They said they'd look more into that as well, but that so far, they didn't see a problem there.
On the positive side, I saw Regina really cry. She's always been such a calm, quiet baby, but she cried hard several times while we were there. She also acted hungry for probably the first time ever--really rooting around, fussing, shoving her hands in her mouth. Of course, the min. the nurse put a bottle in her mouth, she wouldn't eat it, but the fact that she was acting hungry was a start.
I'm going down this morning with MIL, and hopefully I'll get some good answers and we'll know where we're going from here. Please continue to pray. Thanks.

Praying for dear little Regina. I pray that God will heal her completely and you can bring her home.
A few years ago when my daughter was in ICU for 10 days we were able to get a special pass that excepted us from the paarking fee. Also, the waiting room was set up with some pillows, pull out chairs, couches, table, refrigerator, coffee, etc.. for parents to sleep there. There was a family that had been "living" there for over a month while their littlest was in NICU.
Peace and blessings,
Jody

Regina had to have another blood transfusion today. Her red blood cell count is really low and they felt there was no other option but a transfusion. They're going to start her on some iron, so hopefully we don't have to worry about any more transfusions.
Dh and I went down so we could do our blood tests in order for the hematologist to complete her diagnosis. They now have everything they need so hopefully I'll hear something about that tomorrow.
She is scheduled to go down for the MRI tonight, but since she's an add on, she could get bumped. I'm praying that they get her in...it's killing me waiting so long to find out if there is anything wrong with her brain or not. I know it's not an emergency, but come on people!
On the positive side, she does seem to be doing a tiny bit better on her feedings. She's been taking 20-25 cc's at some of her feedings now. She's not terribly consistent with it, but it's better than 3-5cc's, so I'll take what good news I can get.
Once the blood disorder is diagnosed, and the MRI finished and read, we'll have a better picture of where to go from here. I'm praying that all of that is completed by tomorrow so we can go into the weekend with some kind of plan.
I won't be able to go down tomorrow, but MIL and FIL are going down for the day, and then we'll be going back down on Saturday. Some friends of ours brought us dinner tonight, which was wonderful, it's the first time in a while we've had a nice meal. She made tons of food, so we have enough for a few dinners/lunches.
Please continue to pray that this will be resolved very soon and we can bring her home...she'll be 3 weeks old tomorrow, and it's killing me that she'll be a month old next week and possibly still in the NICU.

Emily - I know this is such an unclear road right now, with more confusion and questions than answers. Know that we are here, reading your updates and sending prayers for you, your husband, your family, and especially little Regina! Know as well that God is not a God of confusion - He will make all things clear and known to you in His time. He is the author of all of this, and He is writing Regina's story with great care and the gentle attention of a Father. Rest in His comforting embrace right now.
We're praying here!

Dear Emily - this must be so very hard for you. My preemie twins were in the hospital for 6 weeks and I remember how it broke my heart not to be able to take them home. Our family is praying for your little Regina and for wisdom for all the doctors, that she may grow strong and well and be able to come home soon.
Hug

I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this stress with your sweeet baby, Emily!! My last two kiddos have been in NICU for a month, it is a real marathon...please try to get some rest, eat as good as possible, and ask for help. I didn't do very well at those just mentioned things....and paid dearly. I am keeping your precious baby and your family in my prayers, please keep us updated!!
ETA--please get in contact with the social worker in NICU to help you out with food and parking coupons...most hospitals do that...also have them look into seeing if Regina qualifies for your state's supplementary "Children's Special Health Care Services" for children with special needs...that will help with the NICU bill and other hospital and doc bills.
Anxiously waiting for news on that MRI!!!
