Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Books--I have been collecting them since my first was born almost 11 years ago. I can still find them in some of the nicer children's boutiques around here and I have a few that are actually vintage that I picked up at flea markets. They are pricey these days, but I usually buy one for each new baby and my mom usually contributes one or two more. I think my collection is up to about 12 now.
My favorite part of the nesting routine is that I always wash them, iron them, and hang them on satin hangers in the weeks before the baby comes, with little powder sachets hanging with them. Nothing like powdery fresh, vintage baby..... .

OK, now I'm just drooling. Can you post a link or picture to what you are describing? I don't even think I've ever seen anything like this.

ETA: I popped over to your blog to see if you had any pictures of babies in vintage gowns. While I couldn't find any pix, your blog is wonderful...

Okay, I took pictures of my own collection, but the only computer I have access to right now is an ornery old one and will not upload them, so here are some links to hold you over:
ebay auction for vintage gown
Grannie's Attic Vintage Style Baby Items (most of mine look similar to this one)
Feltman Brothers day gown (I think eight of my twelve are this brand, even the vintage ones...and it's fairly reasonable when you think this is the sixth baby boy who'll be wearing some of these).
My mom had 30 of these when we were babies...her mom's gift to her daughters...and MawMaw would come to the house, launder and press them and hang them in the closet every week for the first month. Then she'd pay the cloth diaper service to do it for mom. I think my sentimental attachment to the idea has to do with that feeling.

We basically keep our new babies in footed pjs around the clock. They're asleep all the time anyway... We dress them to go to church or "visiting", but that's about it for the first 3 months. 3-6 month old summer babies start wearing "real" clothes: all dresses for the girls and Carters' short-sleeved or sleeveless rompers for the boys - the ones with polo collars for church. If it's winter, my 3-6 month old babies will stay in pjs...but by 6-9 month I have them in "real" clothes.
