Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I spoke with Martha yesterday and she was still in the hospital. Her hematocrit was low. As soon as her numbers start to trend upwards, they'll let her go home on bedrest. If you have ideas for bumping up the iron, please PM her.

Keep praying!

I just saw this and read her blog. It looks like she is on her way home!
Praise God!
My prayers will continue for Martha and JP.

Thanks for the prayers, everyone! I have felt them! Thanks also for the great iron-boosting ideas you have sent! Molly, I'm thinking of you as I enjoy my frosted mini-wheats!

Cereal prayer warriors--I love it! Our Costco carries the mini-wheats, thank goodness, because my kids have discovered them, too. They can't understand that mommy actually needs them ! I have yet to find anything with more iron per serving. You'll continue to be in my prayers.

OK I need to know about this - my iron levels came back horribly low - first time in 10 years. Is this just the plain frosted mini wheats? What is the % of iron per serving? Hmm - I can just see my kids faces - we do not usually have sugar cereal!!!

Marilyn, I bought the Frosted Shredded Mini-Wheats in the orange box. (Even though it's frosted, I really wouldn't consider it a "sugar cereal", like say, Frosted Flakes.) It's listed as having 90% of our USRDA (which is 18 mg), so at about 16 mg per serving it's a good iron deal. Plus it has 6 grams of fiber per serving so that helps balance the iron . It's also very filling, as opposed to sugar cereals.

I'm supposed to take my pre-natal, plus two 30mg iron supplements each day for anemia. Those supplements really mess with my system, though, so I try to eliminate one or both with iron rich foods. I'm always on the look out for the big guns, so I was happy to find this because I'm not one for liver !!

Hey y'all -- Amazon carries these at a great price! You could get your iron, buy some books and have it all delivered to your home -- how cool is that??????

Thanks Molly and Mary. I found a tiny box left over from vacation - and I quite like them - so hopefully off the Costco (or Amazon!) to get some. I cannot tolerate iron supplements. Problem is that I have not been taking my prenatal as I had real problems keeping it down. Also - unlike the last 2 pregnancies I did not crave beef - so I guess my iron intake has been lower. I have 2 weeks till blood retest - if I can get my counts up I will not have to supplement.

(Martha - sorry for hijacking your prayer thread!!)

No problem, Marilyn! I have also upped my Vit C as that helps with iron absorption. Just another idea for you. I'll have my labs re-drawn on Thursday - keeping my fingers crossed!!
