Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Every day. With Trish's soap. And Sarah takes her bath with me. It's calm, quiet and soothing before bedtime for both of us. The first time she really smiled at me was in the tub. Alas, no pictures

My toddler, who actually needs a bath every day, is another story. She hates to be wet.

We're lucky if my son gets in the bath once a week! He HATES the bath!

As a newborn, my mother bathed him every day for the first week, then every other day for the next MONTH - he spent the next two years with eczema - I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but I just did not have the time/energy/gumption to bathe a perfectly clean baby every. single. day.

He cried the whole time he was in the bath those first few days - and he's never really gotten over it. I would just wipe him down with water on a cloth at some diaper changes (and washed his hands and face at every diaper change and every meal time) and as long as he smelled fine, his hair looked nice and I didn't "see" any dirt, I figured it was good enough.

Between 15 and 27 months, I did my very best to at least have him *play* in water every evening - to loosen dirt and such (is this bad?) I would have to fill his infant bath tub in the middle of the main bath tub - putting water in the big tub too - add all the toys - and he would just climb in and out of the baby tub, moving his toys around, sometimes getting water above the belly button, but usually not.

Now at 4 (almost 5), he'll sometimes sit in the tub, but he usually wears swim trunks when he does. And he's still at once every 1 or 2 weeks - except that he WILL wash his feet every single evening (in the bathroom sink). At least I know something is clean!

Every couple days on actually immersion baths. Frequently sponge type stuff.

I had summer babies who's hair would smell bad from sweat and from being fondled and kissed by dirty siblings.

We usually do the full bath once a week (or a couple of times if needed) and then in between use a warm washcloth for all the crevices I would also wash hair more often if I couldn't smell the baby bath smell in their hair anymore, but my kiddos have never had much hair as a newborn. I never want to dry their skin out so I don't do daily baths.

I've never washed a newborn more often than once a week.

Ideally my kids bathe as needed or on Wed. and Sat. night (not counting those who shower). Sometimes one of those doesn't happen.

I would have to agree! I hardly ever gave the last one a bath. Of course, we live in a harsh climate so baths are very drying. I also got pretty lazy with the last one. We start doing more baths when the meal times get rather messy.

Most of my kids still get baths once a week (until they can shower themselves)--just like the Ingalls...so they are ready for Sunday and not smelly!

Thanks, I feel so much better. I have always bathed the littlest ones on Saturday nights, and if needed in between. In the summer, they get a bath nearly every night because they are dirt magnets! Greta is 5 weeks old (already!) and she has had 3 baths. (I go about 2 weeks after a baptism as to not wash of the smell of chrism oil! LOL!)

Elizabeth, I used to bathe with my little ones so much more than I do now. I remember how soothing it was. I do have a water sling that I sometimes use in the shower with Mark.

OK, I'm probably the worst! I don't remember the last time I gave my little man a bath    I'm not a fan of bathing the kids- takes to much time, and I hate bathing a baby during the winter. I need to get back to bathing him more often, as he is getting a bad case of cradle cap...
The weird thing is that he has the greatest funky (not stinky) baby smell. I sniff his head all the time. I hate to have that little man smell covered up by shampoo and soap.

Lisa,
I love the smell of chrism oil too! I have been known to go more than 2 weeks just to keep that smell

My mom was shocked also when she witnessed my bathing practices. Oh well, everyone does what works best for their family. Baths are not my thing but I have been known to soak in the tub with a little one.

Peace,
Jody

Once a week for sure. They'll more than make up for it in daily showers when they are teens!

I prefer every other day, but my little guy has VERY sensitive skin, so it was more like every 5-7 days. Even now, at almost two, his skin starts to rebel if it's more than ever 3rd day.

I don't think it matters, as long as they don't smell bad. That sour-milk smell that a stinky baby gets makes me .

My first was daily.
My second was every other day, opposite of first.
The twins, not very often. I needed sleep more than I needed clean babies. If they were not nursing, they were in daddy's capable hands as much as possible.

On, and now the twins have been known to bathe 2-3 times a day. The bathtub is a cheap baby-sitter.

I'm another of the few every day bathers. All my children have loved their baths. It is part of our wind down and get ready for bed routine - bath with very mild soap (I am hoping to get some of Trish's this time round - she will even make it to cater to our allergies!), massage with natural oil and soothing music and then a good night's sleep. Often the infant and I take a bath together and it is a good excuse for me to get to bed early. None of my children have had eczema or dry skin as babies. Only my dd has eczema - and it is food allergy related - started when she was 5.

Older kids all take a bath or shower every night - even the boys enjoy them!

Dermatologists are changing their minds about baths - I believe the latest views are that it is better for children to take a bath every day, especially kids with skin problems - as it reduces the chance of bacterial infection.
