I thought I'd stop in quickly for a shoulder to cry on. I haven't yet posted my "real" baseball mom post earlier like I had intended - I think I've been in denial about this season and avoiding talking about it. It's the last for my 17 year old son. For this son in particular baseball has been a huge part of his life and therefore ours as well.
In just a few minutes he will be playing what could very well be the last game of his high school career (they are in playoffs - single-elimination, playing the number one team in the state - we're #17). I'm really emotional - more so than I thought I'd be. I'm taking a break here between games and trying to relax so thought I'd stop in. If anyone is around I'd appreciate some "baseball mommy" prayers - just that they do their best, it's a good game, and I can hendle the end. Very bittersweet time. Not sure how I'm going to do - I'm already crying at the keyboard.
Gotta go. Thanks for listening.

Hello Ladies,
I should have posted at the beginning of the season. Had I known what a player I had . My ds 8 almost 9 is playing the best season ever. We think he has been selected for all-stars. He is already a star in our eyes. He is the youngest of 3 doting sisters who help him keep his attitude in check.
Tonights tourney game was fabulous with my "go getter" hitting 2 doubles and a tripple. Adding to that was a perfect double play single handedly!
Am I being too prideful? I hope it only comes across as a crasy baseball momma who just loves to toot her son's horn. I am proud to be a part of this group.
I'd also like to hear a cheer for us softball moms.
My oldest dd is having a steller season as well and has a tournement game Wednesday. They only lost one game in the regular season and we are hopeful they will rise to the occasion and play their little pigtails off.
I think what I enjoy most about ball season is all of this outdoor time. We are getting to experience friends and family in the out-of-doors. The fan fare and the comrodery between the parents is wonderful. No fist fights or yelling matches just good wholesome cheering for the best plays. All and all the fans are wonderful and the players have a great time. Isn't that what the game is all about.
I love seeing the little ones cheering for their brothers. One little one at our game tonight kept cherring on her father who was pitching to the boys. "Good pitch Daddy. Keep 'um commin'"
There is a totally different world behind the fence at a game. Older children tending to younger ones so the adults can "watch" the game. Concession stand visits with a yard long stick filled to the top with flaovred sugar. Just in time for the end of the game and right to bed. NOT!
You all may know just what I am talking about. It just wouldn't be spring with out these lovely dust/mud filled evenings.

Yeah Jennifer!
Sorry, I didn't post my intro. at the beginning of the season. My son is 9 and he plays with Dixie Youth here in SC. There is no "Little League". This is his second spring season. We played with a more leisurely league through the YMCA before that. Russell is one of those enviable kids who is natural athlete. He's good at everything, but WE LOVE baseball.
Only two games left in the season, but we'll be going to the playoffs. I'm already worried about withdrawl. Fortunately, he was recruited to join a traveling tournament fall ball team. June is going to be a loooong month.

Hope you are all enjoying the World Series...Go Phillies !
I'm here to enjoy a moment with you all. Here's a time sensitive link showing Aiden's Red Mountain Red Hawks are the champions of this past weekend's Halloween Scream Tournament and are now ranked #1 in the nation!
Aiden is in the second row from the front, far right. In the tourney Aiden pitched 2 games - Sat: 4 innings/ 4 strike outs/ 3 hits/ 2 earned runs, Sun: 5 innings/ 4 strike outs/ 3 hits/ 0 earned runs / complete game shut out.
Chances are good that the Red Hawks will move up to AAA this week so I want to enjoy this moment of being on top with you .
Also a tip to share. I purchased an Accubat Coach's Helper awhile ago and I'm able to help my boys with drills - ME! Thought there might be some other moms who like being outside practicing but can't hit a ball with a bat easily over and over and over and over .
Love,

Question baseball mom's!
My ds just made a U9 Baseball Tournament Team! We are currently getting his equipment together. What have you ladies used for bags?
My dh likes the backpack type bags. I don't have opinion, but I do want something that can hold everything and keep him organized during the tournaments.
Any suggestions? Type? Brands? Stores to purchase at?
THANKS!!!!
Betsy

Angie, how have you liked the Accubat? I am tempted to get this, the cost is the only thing holding me back. Just curious what your thoughts were now after having it for a while!
THanks,

(I'm not supposed to be here...shhhhhhhhhh, don't tell!)
Woooohooooooo and congratulations!
Equipment bags are a funny thing. There tends to be a "group think" about them on some teams so you might want your ds to check out what other players on his team have to get an idea of what the "in" bag is (not that he has to get the "in" bag - my boys tend to just get what they like.) Bags also depend on what position your ds will play. If he catches, he'll need a much bigger bag than if he doesn't. Wheels are great - especially for catchers. I don't think either of my boys have used the backpack type carrier but I do see them around. If you haven't found baseballsavings.com yet, this might be a good time .
I use the Accubat 2-3 times a week with the boys. For us, it is totally worth it! But if you can hit a ball with a bat, you may not be impressed .
Another hot item...titanium necklace. My dh and dss look for them on sale - might make a nice gift!
My 14yo isn't home right now. I'll get back to you if he has any more bag tips, Betsy.
Love,

Angie,
I wanted to *finally* thank you for all of your helpful advice.
First, we ended up getting a the back pack style bag. It's big enough to fit everything, yet small enough for my 9yo to carry and manage.
Second, we did not get the accubat yet, but I am pretty sure we are going to in the spring. With my SPD I can not do anything athletic with my boys (I can barely do ttapp, but I should, have been a bit lazy!), but I know that my dh will get a ton of use out of it.
Third, I had never hear of baseballsaving.com until you posted it here. However, the day after your post our coach announced that he ordered all of the boys uniforms from there. Let's just say it's bookmarked!!!
Thanks again for all of the advice. I hope that your son is recovering from his injury and ya'll are getting ready for spring ball!
Betsy

You are welcome, Betsy! I'm glad we're in this together .
I just posted a prayer request for baseball tryouts. Could you all pray for our young men? Any other players trying out in need of prayer?
Love,

Well, we are just getting started. First day of practice for our youngest. It's very strange this year not to have any big ones playing high school ball. We miss that. But an update from last year, our son who graduated last year, decided to play baseball at Franciscan University. He is their starting second baseman. The team is still struggling - only started up NCAA Div. 3 athletics a few years ago, so growing. But they have won more games this year already than they did all of last year. My dh is flying out there this weekend to see some games. It's hard not living close enough to visit all the time.
So anyway, as the season is starting up I wanted to post from a little book I have - A Prayer for the Opening of the Little League Season.
They are very fitting little reflections for the various positions and fans.
Quote:
Dear Almighty God,
This is the prayer for all the kids of all races and creeds in the boundless earthly springtime as baseball once more commences, as it has and will eternally in the ordinance and charter of Thy inexorable seasons.
First, bless the youthful catchers - in their awkward knee pads and chest pads and masks, their unwieldy tools of ignorance, which shelter all boys who possess the valor to be catchers - that they may be safe from injury and neglect, from errant curveballs and stray fast ones and sharp little fouls that nip the mortal flesh. |

I'll post more the next few days...
