Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Beg, borrow or steal to get the BBC series Planet Earth -- seriously, this series is amazing!

We spent the morning detoxing (all 3 littles have been sick all weekend with JP succumbing last night ) and watching the first disc of this series. My 19yos called last week and said we had to get it ... and he's right! It is beautifully filmed with great information and clear descriptions of what happens. It borders on the "politically correct" with references to overpopulation, etc but the rest is so cool you kind of miss much of that.

At the end of each episode is a Planet Earth Diaries which does a short, behind the scenes story about tracking the wild dogs of Africa or spending years to spot a snow leopard.

Just amazing stuff!

This is why I love Netflix!!!!

I have the entire set in my queue - we loved watching them the first time, and they are a great series to watch when it's soooooo cold outside during the winter months and you can't get out to nature walk as often!

We have the entire set in our queue as well. But they have just loved watching the first that I'm having a hard time getting them to part with it and mail it back, so we can get the next ones!! I'm thinking of purchasing the whole set since they're not that expensive.

If you like Planet Earth you should try Blue Planet. It is absolutely fascinating. I have no idea how they filmed some of it. We watched it over and over when we were working on our scuba certification, so fond memories there.

You can also get a series called BBC Atlas from Netflix, which we have really enjoyed.

I just put these into my Netflix que, but if we all do this, there will be "long wait" long wait next to these titles at Netflix.

We watched Planet Earth and Blue Planet last year during this time, winter-spring. It truly was awesome and my kids LOVED them. We revisit them now when we come across the topic of the desert, or dolphins, or something like that. My kids still today talk about the shark eating the seal. They wanted to rewatch it over and over again (nice huh?)

They are a wonderful investment!

All have to check that out Mary, thanks for the heads up!

Have you seen the new Disney movie Earth? The link shows the trailer, it is awesome! But it too has it's politically correct message in it too.. The images are magnificent and very cutting edge.

We saw the trailer at the movie for Inkheart. It seemed that some of the footage came right out of the Planet Earth dvd. I think the Disney movie is connected with the BBC, or am I totally wrong.

We are looking forward to that movie too. We've come to see the pc message in every Disney movie, it's almost a running joke now! HA!

Thanks for this! I ordered this and the Blue Planet Seas dvds through Amazon Marketplace--less than $50 for both 5-disc sets!!!    Wish we could do Netflix, but we can't watch on our Mac and we don't watch enough to justify the cost, I think.

We bought the whole set at Costco. It was the best money we ever spent there

I love anything by David Attenborough!!!

If you like Planet Earth and Blue Planet, you should check out his other documentaries: Life of Birds, Life of Mammals, Life in the Undergrowth (insects, worms, etc.), and Life in Cold Blood (reptiles). So cool!!

I saw this at WalMart a few weeks ago but didn't know how accurate or how good it was. I guess I will go back and buy it.      Thanks, Mary.

We had a videoschooling day this week - thank you Mary for reminding me about these - my good friend had given the set to us last year and we had never watched them. The kids have not quite finished - but all of them think they are awesome.

When we are done - our next videoschooling day will be Michael Palin's "Around the World in 8 Days"

Discovery Streaming also has this series available on their site - at least I think it is the same - the segments have the same titles: Pole to Pole, Mountains, Jungle, etc.

I actually bought this on clearance last year because they are VHS format. I wasn't sure about it either - can't wait to watch it now !

I don't know if this compares to Costco or Walmart's price, but the Planet Earth set is on sale at Amazon...

Planet Earth - Complete Series on DVD $47.49

Looks to be the real bargain, am I missing something??
ETA: You have to have a HD DVD player to play this, that explains the price
Planet Earth Complete Series HD DVD $29.99

Planet Earth and Blue Planet set $66.99

Booksnbabes, we have a Mac and we have been able to watch instantly for several months now. Have you checked recently?
