Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just ordered the Snowscape Jacketfrom LLBean. It wasn't the color I would have liked--all they had in my dd's size was Gray--but it's a great jacket. Originally $79.00, I got it for $30 . And, as Mary chris pointed out, the neutral colors can be handed down.

I had the problem that LLBean and LandsEnd either didn't have the sizes I needed or they only had them in purple.    I wasn't that excited that I had to buy two exactly the same (I consider it dangerous since you don't know who you are warning not to fall in front of the metro train), and I think I'm going to have to sew some identifying color on the backs somewhere.

I definitely did not get the deal you did, Elizabeth, but I have learned my lesson about shopping early to find the best deal. I pray these coats will last us until we move back to warmer climes , but I have a feeling we'll be spending quality time here. Good thing I love the field trip opportunities!

OK, tricks on not losing mittens or gloves? (I know I'm completely hopeless, but when I was little we "went to the snow" once a year!)

This is working for us so far...I put an over-the-door towel rack on the door of our coatroom, and our hats, mittens, and scarves are tied onto the bars. I think I'd rather have a basket, but I don't have anyplace to put it.

I'm trying the basket but things are being relocated by the baby. Your towel rack gave me an idea though. I have one of those hangers that holds a bunch of skirts. I'm going to try clipping things to that. But that doens't solve the lost mitten in the metro parking lot the other day.

I just realized that when I was coat shopping, there was nothing the baby's size so she has nothing coming! She is about 18 months old. Would people recommend a one-piece suit or just a coat?

It's a hard age. I bought a few coats before I realized they didn't work in the car seat or just walking around. Make sure their arms can bend in the coats!

I'd say a coat, because they do toddler around, but I also got a snowsuit (Hey, I have on 18 mos size...would you like to borrow it?) for the snow playing days. He mostly sat on the sled while Daddy pulled it.

My 1 year old has a coat. She needs it since she wants to walk with her brother
As for the lost mittens... there are a couple of tricks... crochet or knit or buy a piece of string/length of yarn and sew it to the cuffs of the coat. Sew the other end to the mittens.
Otherwise, a nice bag hung over a coat hanger (or pillowcase) in the cupboard/coatrack can have all the hats/scarves and mittens placed in it.

I kind of like those one piece fleece things for that age. Then you could put a coat over it. Our 18 mo. snowsuit was too puffy to walk.

I would love to borrow your snowsuit Jenn. I'll pm you to see if it will work out.....I see the Cracker Barrel in my future. The one in Manasses is the closest one to us.

Then if I buy Ceclia a coat too, she can be ready for anything, and I can always use her present fleece jacket to layer. DH has finally finished finals so I can go to a store and look at things without taking everyone along. The parkas I ordered online came and once the older kids had theirs on you could see that they were too small and too thin.    That's one drawback about buying things online. I keep looking hopefully at the link that Elizabeth put up, but they're out of my kids' sizes.

I did get one good parka out of the deal, though, and that was for the one who was most desperately in need so I'm very grateful for that. I found boots, and I think I'm going to try that pillow case trick. Hmmm, winter isn't seeming quite so scary now. Thank you all!
