My husband turns the tv on when he gets home and off when he goes to bed, lol. I WISH he watched things like The Office cuz then I could, too.
I thought that was funny about revoking your homeschooling mom license.

Oh, ya know, I think you hit on something here for me. My DH is gone at night, and...it can feel too quiet sometimes. I am not sure how to explain it. But yes, I think the fact that DH isn't here is a big reason behind why I watch at night...

I watch more now because I have little one under one. It's during that time when the others have gone to bed and this little one takes a "pre-bedtime" nap that I like to lay down next to her and I turn the tv down low because I'm not really ready to sleep. It's been that way with each kiddo then as the little one gets bigger and goes down for the night at a usual bedtime with the others that my tv time usually goes down.
I'm a big reality tv fun-Biggest Loser, Survivor and Amazing Race.

Too quiet?
LADIES! There is no such thing as too quiet!!! Okay, so maybe things around here were a bit noisier than usual today... must be needing a little quiet time myself...

This year I swore off American Idol... but my kids are pulling me in against my will!!!
AI and Fox News are about the only things I watch.

Me and the TV have a close relationship...almost TOO close at times. No really, DH and I unwind in front of the TV at night....we have certain shows we watch and unfortunately there is almost something on every night of the week. I am usually TOO TIRED to do much else....if I try and read past 8 or 9pm I don't get much out of it......I get too sleepy and my mind is too tired. So, you are OK.....and certainly not an oddball...LOL..

I don't watch TV. I watch the computer. Seriously. We never remember to watch the shows we like when they come one but we are very excited to get to watch them the next day online. All of the shows we like are online; The Office (Husband's favorite), Psych (we both enjoy and don't get because we don't have cable), and Chuck (super fun show). Pushing Daisies was another one but it was canceled (another super fun, quirky show).
We also enjoy shows or seasons that have come and gone when we can get them on DVD through Netflix. Veronica Mars was one that we caught when it was still on the air but very close to being canceled. We watched it on DVD.
Anyway, just my way of saying, we do enjoy some veg-out time curled up in front of something light and fluffy when the day is done. It helps us unwind.

Yeah, I watch more when DH is working nights, or gone, period...the quietness is...while not abnormal, still...a little different. Its like when you wake up in the morning, with your back to his side of the bed, and you just know he's not there, even if it's his day off, and he'd likely have slept in a bit--ykwim? That whole "psychic spousal connection"...

This is one of our favorites! I am always telling dh, "Explain it to me like I'm an 8 year old. Now explain it to me like I'm 5." We have had many laughs over this scene!

I watch television, but I've been slowly cutting back over the past few years. I used to be really bad about letting all "my shows" interfere with my parenting. The DVR has been a real blessing for dealing with this. Now my shows fit around my schedule instead of my schedule fitting around my shows. (The DVR also allows me to pause to deal with kidlet interruptions.) For the past two years I've sworn off of adding any new shows, unless they are ones my husband and I would enjoy together (a rarity) or with the kids. And last year I finally cut out my last daytime soap.
I think the writer's strike last year really made it easier to cut back even more on shows that I just sort of liked. And I've actually kind of had mixed feelings about the end of Christmas hiatus.
It's one of those things where I like to have shows available for those down times when I am stranded on the couch with a sleeping/nursing baby and don't feel like reading (which sometimes happens) or I am too tired to do anything else at night but unable to go to bed because the baby isn't ready yet. There's nothing worse than be stuck awake with nothing decent to watch on over a 100 channels.
It's like someone else said, "It's about moderation in all things." I am just as likely to let a book suck me in and keep me from doing things that I should do, but no one is made to feel guilty for reading to much.
And I also (gasp!) let my children watch more television and play on the computer more than is deemed acceptable by many people.

We love this show, too. We got "caught up" last year, but we've missed enough shows that we can probably watch it again.
We used to have C-band satellite and watched in the evenings. They've basically phased that out and DISH or DirectTV is too expensive. We got spoiled with satellite TV, though, and can't stand to watch network TV because the commercials drive us crazy. Still, we like to pick a show (like "The Office") and watch old episodes through Netflix. I think Danielle Bean talked about starting a support group for "Lost" addicts. So, you are not alone...

I am probably in this category, too. But I think I'm pretty selective about what it is they watch. My 3 yo learned his ABC's from Super Why and thanks to Dora my 2 yo brings me a book and says, "Abre!", so how bad can it be?

I watch TV but it is sporadic watching on my part. Lately, though, I have been experiencing quite a bit of stress. To deal with this stress, I bought the first season of LOST. I have never seen it but I have heard lots about it, though. So now when the kids are in bed, I pop in a DVD and deal with my stress.
I am very surprised but I really like this show!
Blessings,
