Jenn, how long a drive is it? I wasn't planning on going because the cost of gas and of a hotel. I hadn't considered going up for the day.

I'm just destined not to ever go!
Somehow, something family ALWAYS comes up and I just can't squeeze it in. Have a blast everyone and enjoy -- I'll keep you in my prayers for safe travel and that my enviousness doesn't get too bad!

I drove up alone on Saturday for the FCL Conference. I made great time, about 2 1/2 hours.
Rachel Watkins and MacBeth were really great. Michele said cds of the talks would be available for purchase next week, and I think they are really worth buying. I really had a lot I could chew and implement for my faith and my home education.
The variety of vendors was really nice. I met with Susie Lloyd who was autographing her books,
Please Don't Drink the Holy Water! and her new book, Bless Me, Father, For I Have Kids. It was great to chat with her!
I got to meet several 4Realers, including MicheleQ, of course, and MacBeth, Mary Ellen (MEBarrett), Lindsay (CrunchyMom), Margot, and Mary (Mare). I saw KarenT but didn't get a chance to introduce myself. I hope I didn't miss anyone! I met several other people, but if you didn't tell me your "handle" on 4Real I got a little lost!
The greatest part of this conference was the intimacy. We had some wonderful spontaneous conversations between talks. It's not often you can just chit-chat with the speakers in such a casual atmosphere.
My drive home was easy and beautiful. Pennsylvania and Virginia are so pretty to drive through! I made it plenty of time for movie night with dh. And I used only 1 tank of gas, too!
So, thanks, Michele, for all your hard work. I really, really enjoyed myself!

I highly recommend Rachel's talk on Joy. There was so much in it that I felt pertained directly to me, and perhaps to all homeschooling mothers with a lot on our plates. Even though I heard the talk, I plan to purchase it and listen it during the year when I've let my joy slip to despair. She gave really practical ideas for keeping and guarding our joy which I thought were right on the mark.
Thanks Rachel !!
I agree that the intimate setting was wonderful - I felt the same way after last year's conference.
Thanks Michele (and husband) and Sally.

I also had a good time. Rachel's talk was so inspiring! I had never thought of doing math outside, so I got some ideas from MacBeth also.
I met and spoke with many of you, but am not sure who is who on 4Real! If you met me, let me know who you were! I was the pregnant one with dark hair, with my 11-year-old daughter. I was helping chase my Godson, the crawling baby.
The picnic was a nice, informal time to meet and chat. Michele, did you ever figure out what was wrong with your car?
Thank you for all of your hard work. I look forward to next year's get-together.
Your sister in Christ,
Leocea

I talked with you in the lobby with Christina and your godson's mom! I had the 10 month old baldy in a blue mei tai.

This brings up a point: what about wearing a 4real pin/sticker/whatever with our "screen name" so when we go to different conferences we can hook up with each other .... I know I passed right by some 4realers at IHM and didn't even know it! And by putting our screen name, some of you with cryptic names (Waltzing Matilda in deed ) I'll be able to remember your real name and your 4real name!

It was a wonderful time of fellowship and refreshment for the upcoming school year . I, too, really enjoyed Rachel's talk. I need to sit down this week and answer some of her thought provoking questions on joy.

Leocea, I was sitting next to Rachel during the afternoon talk. I wondered who "Little Flowers" was really for - the moms or the daughters.

The talks are finally available. There definitely seems to be some spiritual aspect to all this because I have had quite a time getting these talks up. Especially Rachel's --it's just been one thing after another. I really think it's a powerful talk.
Thank you all to all who came --you blessed us with your presence. I am still tired though.

After we drove it home it died again and no matter what we did it would not start. I don't know what it was about Kimberlee and Michael's vehicle that it was able to jumpstart it at the picnic (divine intervention?) but no other car could after that! In the end we just put in a new battery (though we tried a few different things first) and it seems to be working. Thanks be to God for friends who let you borrow their 15 pass van for the week (thanks Sally!)
As for next year I don't know, I only know that if there's a conference/get together next year I won't be the one organizing it. This past year has been one of the hardest years of my life (Sept. 28th will mark one year since Matthew's diagnosis and May 6th marked Maggie's one year --my oldest son got married and my 19 yr. old was sent to Iraq). Tim and I are tired and need to take a step (or two) back.

I wish we had taped that --who knew a Little Flowers workshop was going to be so interesting?! I was only able to catch snippets but didn't she mention something about a Princess program (book?) that she's working on? It sounded lovely!
Thank you again to all who came, prayed, helped and/or just in general supported the effort (though blog mentions etc.).
God bless!

Michelle, thank you for all the hard work that went into the day. Especially, thanks to your beautiful family who supports and also sacrifices for the good of all of us! You are truly blessed to have them and you all deserve a hard-earned year off, although you will be missed!
