What are your New Year's Eve plans?
For the first time in forever my dh and I are actually going out for New Year's Eve. I've put up three options in Key West for this evening on my blog. They all count as *only in Key West* moments.
But what are your plans?
Super fun or fancy dinner? Stomping on bubble wrap at midnight? (I love that ) Champagne toast? Firecrackers and sparklers? Anyone else braving the crowds?

My youngest child's godfather is making a gumbo and bonfire at his house in the country. We're going there.
New Year's Day is at my mom's. Another gumbo. With cabbage and black eyes on the side.
Have fun and stay safe, everyone!

Well, we had 18 inches of new snow overnight-so it looks like we will be home celebrated--after the snow-shovelers have all fallen asleep I'm sure.
We are making sugar cookies this afternoon with the numbers 2009 and the kids with decorate them--we have noise makers (they live here) and are crafting party hats--and then I will go to bed, to be awakened by a child telling me to open my eyes--the ball in NYC is about to drop!

We are going next door for a bit. But we are all a bit under the weather and tired. So we are not staying late.
Tomorrow, I am cooking pork chops and black eyes. Does the cabbage have significance, Cay? We used to have turnip greens, but I don't think I can find those over here.
Happy New Year to you all!

I believe it's:
black eyed beans for good luck
cabbage for financial security
Or the other way around???

We'll be home but my sister and family will be over to open that last of the Christmas gifts that came in the mail and play some games. Set off fireworks before midnight.. we're thinking about going with EST rather than the PST that we're in
I'm making posole and chile verde (posole.. hominy or popcorn soup.. the popcorns have the same significance as black eyed peas)

It is our tradition to go bowling every New Year's Eve! My husband's family started this many years ago, and we have kept it up. Usually we invite a big group of friends and go as a big group, but this year my organizational skills left me, so it will just be the 10 of us!
After bowling, we will be heading off to a friend's house for an evening of food and fun!
All is all, a fun day, since I have no pre or post party cleaning to do!
Happy New Year to everyone!

I like the conch shell. I've never gotten the point of the ball dropping, personally (maybe it's a sort of anti-NYC snobbery?), but I love the idea of the shell.

I'm making a big pot of soup and chicken wings and hosting a family game night for another family. We're looking forward to it!

Nothing special really. Dh is at work but will be home soon. We're going to play board games all evening and then watch a movie til midnight.

Dh and I always put the kids to bed, have fondue and watch a movie. We let the kids countdown to the New year for Greenwich Mean Time which is 6:00 pm here, so they can ring in the New Year and then go to bed so we can be alone. Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks, Cay. I think that we used to have turnip greens for financial security and black eye peas for good luck. I can find cabbage, so I will make the substitution (although I am not sure my dc will eat cabbage)!
ETA: We will be celebrating GMT here. So think of us as you celebrate!

We started a tradition of heading out to a book store and buying new calendars (and books) with any Christmas money that came in followed by a movie marathon with appetizers, snacks/junk for dinner. Confetti poppers on the back porch or in the garage if it's too cold. A later (but not midnight) bedtime for the kids and a champagne toast for mom and dad. Tomorrow we will have ham, black-eyed peas and corn bread.

DH is working. The show must go on and all that....but they did adjust the shows so they are earlier tonite - but the usual 20 minute drive from the Strip will be closer to 1 to 1 1/2 due to traffic.
My mom is still here, and dd19 had her kidney stone procedure yesterday and is still wearing off the anaesthesia today....but we will probably play board games and eat Chinese.
Tomorrow will be kielbasa & sauerkraut for luck...and I can hang up my new house mouse calendar then, too :)

We always stay home and eat finger foods (ie. junk food ) and watch movies until midnight. Our boys will stay up but we'll put the girls to bed at their normal time. We are BEYOND excited to know this is our last New Year's Eve without extended family. We just simply CANNOT wait till dh retires next summer and we get to move home to Northern VA!!! WOOHOO!!!
Tomorrow we'll have pork, black eyed peas, sauerkraut and cheesecake.
Happy New Year everyone!!

We're having our favorite priest over for early dinner (he has to celebrate the evening Mass) and then we'll pull out all the junk food and watch Dickens collection -- dh got both sets from Santa and we all (yep, even the littles) are so enjoying these ... altho David Copperfield last night was pretty darn intense for the first hour or so ......
We'll ring in the New Year and then head to bed as 9yos serves early Mass tomorrow!
ETA: the only one who stayed up with me was Thomas (9, well he'll be 10 in Jan)....all the others (incl dh) pooped out which is WHY we never go anywhere on Dec 31st!

6:30 vigil Mass followed by parish family party. Margaritas (we are in San Antonio) and champagne. And dinner too. All for $15. The Deacon will put on a good supply of dance music for the young and young of heart. Chicken dance, Limbo, Swing, electric slide, etc. Fun will be had by all.
Happy New Year!
Mary

My sister is coming over and we're having a Wii Tournament.
I have been buying snack-y, fancier foods for a couple months and I'm going to put out a spread and we can just nibble when we want.
I have a bottle of champagne for the adults, and sparkling grape juice for the kiddos so we can toast each other.
I don't think DH & I have ever gone out for New Year's Eve?!
