It has been a long night. My SIL has been ill with a stomach bug, which sent her into a profound depression. She collapsed in a grocery store and was taken to the ER in cardiac arrest. They were able to revive her enough to put her on a ventilator and call my MIL. I got a priest over there to anoint her (God bless him). My SIL is not officially divorced, so her husband is next of kin. There were some awful moments when the hospital was pressuring my MIL to take her off life support - but she can't make that choice. They finally did some surgery to find out what was going on - they thought she was bleeding internally - but that wasn't the case. Now we are in limbo, waiting for husband to show up.

Please pray, especially for my nieces - one of whom does not want to live with her dad - and for my MIL. We are 2700 miles away and there are no inexpensive options for getting there - so I guess we need prayers for that, too.

Thank you - we will need a lot of prayer to get us through the next few days.

Have you contacted any airlines directly? Sometimes they have "hardship" flights. You might be able to fly cheaply on stand-by.

Yes, Angie, it is. We know her faith has always been strong, and that is a comfort to us, but we are very worried about her three daughters.

My MIL got a call from my BIL, and headed to the hospital. We are waiting to hear what happens next.

Nancy, I am praying for your SIL. What a tragic situation!

Someone mentioned contacting the airlines directly - I found that I got a much better last-minute fare going through travelocity (or priceline) than contacting the airlines. The airlines wanted $300 - $800 MORE than I could get a ticket through an online agency. (This was in April when my MIL died) The last minute ticket I got for DH was only $30/more than the 14 day fares we had traveled on days earlier.
