Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

this is kind of a hard thread to follow: so I'm just going to throw a hearty "pray for our Priests" into the mix.
Our Clergy are only a mirror of society as a whole. We should not be surprised if 50% of them have issues, as do statistically about 50% of marriages (end in divorce, etc)
We need to pray more, and support the institution, and fight for it just as much as we fight for the institution of marriage!

I believe you, Sarah. I guess I just meant I wasn't sure why you felt the need to say things like that in the context of the discussion.

And yes, it is a fine line to figure out what is complaining for its own sake versus what is a legitimate "problem." And when it is a "problem"--how to address it charitably.

I dont understand why you have a problem with me raising the issues in a thread regarding clergy and our attitudes towards our fellow catholics. Im sorry. Im certain Im not the only one here could could possibly see the relevance.

In the OP the comment made was this:

I am finding that many commens revealing attitudes of superiority, judgement, sarcasm etc come from the lips and keyboard of those known to me (including myself, I hasten to add). It just doesn't sit well with me, and I find myself wondering - unless a Bishop/priest - is directly sinning, should I defend them, make a comment, etc. I just wonder if, in trying to make clergy more traditional or whatever to defend our children and the faith, we are in fact weakening the faith and our children by showing an attitude of disrespect and disobedience.

And I find I am in complete agreement with this and I do find it concerning. My comments were directly related to this portion of the OP.

im feeling more than a little like my thoughs are very unwelcome on this topic.

I'm sorry,Sarah. I said I believed that you were sincere, and I meant it. Your thoughts are not unwelcome, I'm just trying to figure out where you are coming from. Perhaps it isn't necessary that I understand right now, and if it is bothering you, then I will stop--I didn't mean to hurt you.

I guess I just thought that the original post was "Some people with these opinions are uncharitable, how do I react?" so, I am operating with that as a given. For you to state "neither is it okay to x"--to me, it would seem that for some reason you thought someone that it was okay to do it or was doing it. But, maybe not. I'm probably just reading too much into the statement just as I feel you must have been into my own to interpret my tone as antagonistic.

So, if you didn't mean what it seemed to mean to me--which I believe you when you say it didn't--I was just trying to figure out what you did mean.

Again, I apologize if my statements hurt or angered you.

I just returned from First Friday Mass. I went to a little church just across the border from me. The priest is relatively young and newer to the parish. It was NO mass. This wonderful, young, reverant, priest has had people huff out of his homilies in anger, write him angry letters because he is encouraging boy only altar servers, and getting all of the 'minor' abuses set straight. He is brining back some long forgotten or passed over traditions. Some people are really ticked and raising a fuss. His only fault? He was properly formed and is being authentic to Church teaching and instruction.
