Like Angela, I teach the basics - I am not an "unschooler" by any stretch (way too anxious for that sort of thing!) Then we have a block of project time, which is really wide open for them to use. I try to provide them with resources, but I'm encouraging them to do as much of the planning and learning as they can on their own (during this block of time) Sometimes they choose to do project work at other times of the day, too. So it's just one aspect of our learning time.

This sounds a lot like Charlotte Mason mornings and masterly activity afternoons. And it sort of sounds like Sally Clarkson's Educating the Whole Hearted Child. It also sounds like Gayle Graham's "How to Homeschool," but that's really dating myself .Gayle Graham: How to Homeschool
Sally Clarkson

Well, I've never heard of Gayle Graham, but I have read a lot of Charlotte Mason and Sally Clarkson. There is something just really natural and practical about both of their ideas -they just kind of work for me without making me have to put all kinds pressure on myself or my kids I'll have to check Gayle Graham out now!

Gayle Graham was a KONOS rep, so she's writing from a unit study perspective. She was very project-oriented and hands on with her kids, though not as child-led as RE.

Just wanted to share, my sister rang me last night and was excitedly telling me about a day care center at the end of her street. She went to the open day; "It's not Waldorf and it's not Montessori" she said "something else." I said it wouldn't be Reggio Emilia by any chance would it? And it is!! Fancy that. In Carina, Brisbane for any Aussies.
She described the center, lots of wooden toys, small brooms, creative play items were the things she noted. Isn't it an amazing co-incidence?

Erin, was it a mixture of all the various methods we use?
Was it fairly realxed more like a home enviroment?
I am always interested when I read the original intent of Kindergarten in Germany was to re-create the home inviroment.
I ordered my reggi book the other day I didn't order the expensive one though, but the one you have and that Angela recommended.
God Bless
