And right now she is out swinging to her heart's content, singing and chatting with herslef and having a lovely time -- we must be doing something right!

Our breakfasts are:
2 days of oatmeal, with butter, brown sugar, nuts and dried fruit. 2 days of whole grain pancakes with maple syrup
2 days of homemade bread toast and scrambled eggs (with a breakfast meat if dh is home)
1 day of cold cereal
Very basic, whole grains.

I also give the children orange juice to which I add powdered vitamin C and cod liver oil. They didn't know it for a long time.

Bridget, I have been adding liquid minerals to their juice. Why the cod liver oil and does the juice mask the flavor (it just seems like there would be a flavor!)?
I have one daughter who eats incredibly fast and always wants more! I do worry that she'll eat too much and have weight issues later, although she is very active and has great muscle tone for a young girl. This is probably silly! Should I just let her eat until she feels satisfied? I try to get her to slow down and sometimes this works, but mostly it doesn't.

Hearty breakfasts at our house are leftovers from dinner the night before - so today we all had beef vegetable soup. This makes it quick and easy - pop in the microwave and start the day.
Many of us do not like breakfast foods and cereals that are not sugary are very expensive so that is where we are. Occassionally we have oatmeal but 3 yo likes to put raisins in and it causes him to have diarhea. On Sunday we have a big, traditional breakfast because dh is the only one that likes breakfast a lot - but we have pancakes or biscuits or omelets to make it more interesting for everyone. We also drink OJ at this meal. All other meals are water.
My problem is that now the oldest boys are hitting a growth spurt, we rarely have leftovers. I begun to grill extra hamburgers for easy, quick, protein rich meals. I've tried doubling our usual amount in order to have leftovers and found we often just eat more. I may be looking at some of these other ideas - but boy will I miss the super easy breakfast fare of leftovers.

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to decrease my bread groups (this is for myself, not my kids). I'm not on a huge carb-reduction diet, I just want to be more careful about how much of what I eat and it seems that I overeat mostly in the bottom of the pyramid (OK, maybe the very top, too!) and most of my overeating occurs in the mornings (by my estimation) because that's the time when it's most difficult to determine a serving of bread.
Scrambled eggs without toast are *one* example of something that doesn't have any grains or breads in it. But I can't eat scrambled eggs for *every* breakfast. Any suggestions?
