Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks, Jodie, I wondered if it were more like a crockpot than an oven. It sounds that way. Are the temperatures low enough to use it like a crockpot, i.e., long, slow cooking when you don't want to attend to it?

I'm not sure what temps a crock pot uses.. I think they go down to around 200*. I can pretty much leave it going with bean soup or a roast for at least several hours at a time.. I'm rarely gone more than that without at least coming home for a bit which would allow me to check it.

Yup. I ordered from Amazon (Free shipping). I'll let y'all know how it goes. Thanks again, Jodie.

I've read before that newer crock pots are required by law to run hotter than old ones...which is why old crock pot recipes always taste awful in our new crockpots. The meat is always overcooked. I think the one I ordered drops to 250 degrees? It doesn't really matter to me if it takes 4 hrs or 8, since I'm usually home anyway. And soups and chilis won't be hurt by some extra cooking on a field trip day.

I am just chipping in with an alternative viewpoint here:

I LOVE my crockpot - could not live without it. It saves my life with meal planning. I have a large Euro Pro. I stopped using it for a little while when the scare hit - but after a lot of research and discussion went back to it.

For anyone not yet ready to relinquish their crockpots you may find the information here useful
