My 14 yo son enjoys a game called Carrom. Its kind of like billards except you use these heavy duty plastic rings and flick them across the board with your fingers. There are four pockets on the four corners of the Carrom board. Its an old game and can be ordered from Back to Basics Toys for about $35.

Timberdoodle has some nice little games that are fun for all ages. They are inexpensive as well. One is called Sherlock; another is Right Turn Left Turn. There are a couple of others whose names escape me at the moment.
I also want to 2nd SET. A great game for almost all ages! My little kids sometimes beat me!

Crazy Eights is a greater lighter weight version of Uno. My oldest has been playing it since she was four. Sometimes we keep score for variation. Uno had too many cards for her to handle.
Clue Jr. is on our Christmas wishlist. It's like regular Clue without the murder. I'd also like to get Blockus and Yahtzee.
I just want to take this opportunity to recommend Candyland Castle for those will little ones in the 2-3 year range. I bought this as a "don't know what else to get" gift last year. My middle girl already knew her colors and shapes. The directions were simple enough that she could easily play and her older sister enjoyed it, too. It was much better than I expected.

My non-reading younger kids tend to get bored with our family game nights when we play Apples to Apples or Clue. I find that playing a quick game of Kerplunk! before we move on to the other game is a hit and makes everyone feel included.
I bought Set for my 10yo for Christmas last year, and we've really enjoyed that.

Hey there - I would very strongly recommend requesting a catalog from MindWare. It's full of great games for all ages. We have gotten Quirkle and Quoridor. Excellent games for all ages. Quoridor is especially good for 4 beer-drinking adults... My 5yo loves these games.

We were at our great book and educational store today and I saw several that are new to me. Wondering if anyone knows anything or has opinions on any of these... thanks in advance

Make 'n Break by Ravensberger (they're generally a good publisher:-) ). It's a good one for little kids—but I still really enjoy it:-)
Set is good with a wide range, Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan need a bit more strategic ability:-) (someone else already linked to them).
We introduced Puggle (5 1/2) to Robo Rally over the weekend, which was pretty successful. (Dh has had this for a long time! I don't think he paid _quite_ that much!)
Taboo (as long as they can read) is fabulous:-)
I played Villa Paletti earlier this year—like Jenga but _really_ hard:-) It was a scream:-) Pitch Car was pretty good, too:-)
Zooleretto is also on my games wishlist, it's a zoo trading game—gaming friends suggest that 8 is probably the youngest it would suit, so we're holding off on it for a while:-)
If I were to only pick one, I'd probably suggest Villa Paletti:-)

Quirkle, linked by happymama above, has been a big hit with my middles and teens this year. I like how it has nice wooden tiles and stores in a cloth bag (which is provided in the box).

I love "Guess Who" because my 4 year olds can play it without me and they have only had it since Sunday. Very short learning curve. It is interesting enough for the big girls to want to play too.
BTW- Is Pigmania the one with "makin' bacon" - my dad loved that game when I was a kid.

Old fashioned memory is great for an adult and a child. The younger person often has an edge. My mom calls it the "uncluttered mind."
We also like Rummikub for 3-4 people.

Someone already mentioned this, but my whole family loves Apples to Apples. If we're playing the regular (not Jr.) version, the littles will just pair up with an older child or adult and everyone has so much fun!

Mary, did you see that Fungames has Wits and Wagers as one of their top "Party Games"???....from Customers and from the Company.
Pentago looks good! There is a Video here right under the Product Description area....under VIDEO....he talks a little about Pentago at about the 3 minute mark.
And, there's a video about Yamslam too. It looks functionally similar to Yahtzee....with a few extras bonus concepts. He described it as a "streamlined fast version of Yahtzee." He said he likes to play with his kids.
Isn't that cool?? Love the videos!!!!

Yes! Also such things as Snouter and Double Leaning Jowler!
Still makes me laugh to think about it.
