Wow...I am so overwhelmed at your generosity in prayer! We are safe and I haven't heard of anything happening to a student yet. The message did say all week this week though, so your prayers are certainly needed! My husband does come home today, which will give me much greater peace tonight. I thought for sure that I would be unable to go to sleep last night, and after reading over this thread, I am convinced that the prayers you all offered are the reason I dropped off with no problem.
The gang activity in this area is generally contained and they usually keep the violence to themselves. It was extremely distressing to hear that the plan was to go outside of their own circle and into the college community. College students need prayers for so many things, adding fear of gang violence is overwhelming.

Thank you, ladies for your prayers! Please keep praying for the safety of our women on campus!

Sorry I didn't see this last night. I'm relived you had a restful night and that dh will be home soon. Prayers for peace and safety for all. I did see on the news today that they are trying to find the source of this text - it was not sent out by the campus security or by the local police so they are looking into it as a hoax. Though we do know that gang violence is very real and we should always be careful in our surroundings it is also sad that someone might use messages like this to prey on people's fears.

Mary I JUST heard that this was a hoax! While that was a relief, I did hear from many female students who have been at this school for a year or two that they do still exercise caution because this is something that actually happens this time of year in this town. Especially where I (and the female missionaries on my husband's team) live, we have to be careful. It's right on the border of college housing and the literal "wrong side of the tracks." Thankfully, we are right next to the Catholic university center and many local gang members know and absolutely LOVE our priest. He has even convinced many of them to come to RICA!
Praise God that this was a hoax! Thank you for your prayers!
