Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could we ask for prayers now as it looks like Texas is going to bear the brunt of Hurricane Ike's US landfall. Right now it looks like it is going to hit as a Cat 4. I have many relatives in South Texas who aren't leaving. Please pray for them.

I second this request for prayer. There is a good possibility that Ike could hit Houston right at the most vulnerable spot for catastrophic damage. I am personally very concerned as we are in the area.

We are not in an evacuation zone, but we live in an area with a tremendous number of trees and the huge potential for extensive damage.

Thanks for the prayers -
Corry

Praying for all of you! This has been an *active* season for hurricanes. I also have family and friends in the Austin/Waco area and in Houston.

Praying for all of you .... Joe keeps calling from Baton Rouge, updating us on the recovery from Gustav (can't even IMAGINE what Katrina would have been like ) ... this is the first season I really seem to understand and track hurricanes -- WOW!

Prayers heading your way and for all those who have been impacted this year already!

This hurricane is huge! We're expected to have tropical storm strength winds here. My brother is getting married on Saturday. I feel so badly for them. They had planned a sunset wedding outdoors.

KC, my heart breaks for your brother. How sad.

I just found out today my first cousin, who lives near Houston, is staying put.

They're saying it might hit landfall as a Cate. 2.

Let's pray it does just that...

The good news at this hour is that this storm doesn't seem as strong as it might have been. The bad news is that I just checked the map and the eye is projected to pass right over our house.

This scenario could be quite different tomorrow. Many think it will keep shifting east a bit. All I know is that we will sprinkle blessed salt all over our property and the relics will not be far from us during the storm.

Thanks for praying...

I just thought I'd bump this thread since this is my first chance to update since Ike passed through (I'm in the Houston metro area). We just got our power back last night. Yes, that would be 12 days, 20 hours with no power. My husband said I looked as if I were having an apparition of the BVM when I gazed in astonishment at the light that flickered on last night.

The eye of the storm passed right over our house, and I was really quite terrified the entire time. We live in an area that is dense with trees. We were very fortunate to have no major damage - lost parts of the fence, a ton of debris, but nothing through the roof. Many of our immediate neighbors were not so lucky.

I will miss the evenings spent by candlelight, but will gladly trade that for the A/C. Thanks for the prayers for all affected!

Corry
