Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Mine were Lois and Margaret. Lois had a sister named Ruth, and Margaret had sisters named Beatrice and Isabel.

My husband's grandmothers were Louise and ??? -- he literally would have to ask his mom his maternal grandmother's name because they all just called her "Sito" (Arabic for Grandma).

ETA I actually like the name Mildred and Millie is a really sweet nickname.

My Meme's name is Eva (her sister's name is Neva and her brothers' names are Roy, Coy, and Joy - yes, Joy...he ended up becoming a tough sheriff in TX - no kidding!)

My Grandma's name is Lillian.

Both pretty names, I think!

I don't anymore names than that. I'm trying not to be jealous of all of you who know more about your relatives!

Love,

My grandmother's names are Jane and Marion (actually I had three great aunts named Marion as well)...

Our name picked for a daughter for the past five babies was: Marion Jane. We have yet to use it.

the only name I ever had for my mother's mother was "Ma'am" I don't know what her first or last name was.

my father's mother was Mary Angelica Colleen of something something that I don't remember. I do remember thinking that with a name like that I MUST be related to royalty. Maybe she was the lost Anastasia?! I had many a fantasy about that until grandmother pointed out that HER being rich wouldn't make ME even a dime richer.

Loving all these name ideas! (We're still tryng to decide on a girl's name!) My dad's side of the family is completely Italian (we're the first half-breeds ) and my mom is from the Midwest, so we have a combination of Latinate and non-Latinate names in our family tree...

My grandmothers:
Rosina (Italian)
Margaret Veronica

My great-grandmothers:
Nina (pronounced with a long I)
Angela (Italian)
Lucia (Italian)

Great-aunts on the Italian side:
Lucia
Domenica
Maria
Madalena
Tina
Teresa

Great-aunts on the non-Italian side:
Anita
Barbara
Kathleen
Katherine
Ann
Josephine

My grandmother's brother was named Adolph, but he went by "Otto" for obvious reasons.

How fun!

Our grandmas names:
Mavis
Margaret
Barbara
Winifred

G'pa's:
Lawrence
Victor
Lawrence
Thomas

My grandmother and her siblings (and spouses) from MS/LA area had what I thought to be some of the most interesting names:

girls:
Mavis
Willian
Burnell
Ellen
Lucy
Karen

boys:
Burlon
Ellis
Dudley
Skeets
Ruven (not Ruben)

One more interesting note.. I used to call all my great aunts in LA "Aint Lucy, Aint Ellen" etc, but all of my TX aunts/great aunts were always referred to as Aunt Mary, Aunt Julie etc. Funny, huh?

Continuing to enjoy this nostalgic thread...it's so fun to see the common names and also the interesting regional or ethnic ones.

Not a Tiffany, Jessica, Crystal, Savannah, Skylar, Heather, Misty, Ashley among them.... .

Paul George (George was my grandmother's maiden name, a family tradition that the first born son is given his mother's maiden name as a middle name)
William Charles

brothers

Gregory Paul
Paul Gray (again, mother's maiden name)
Michael David
Michael Joseph
David Patrick

grandfathers, uncles, etc.
William Russell

John Joseph
William Russell Jr.
William Elixander (pronounced with a long starting E)
John ? maybe Robert
Joseph ?
Leo Nicholas
James Patrick
