Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What about Agatha Rose? I love Agatha. We almost had an Amelia, but she was a boy! HA!

Can I ask about the origin of the name Annalise?

I'm a fan of Annelise or Annalise as well.
(pronounced anna-lisa, although some will say leece)

Our youngest is an Annalice...named after my maternal grandfather's mother and spelt with a "c" because that is the way her's was spelt. We pronounce it "leece".

We went with the two "n" in her name because we planned to call her Anna when I was pregnant for her. Then she was born and she was an "Annie" from day 1.

We let our oldest dd name her and she had picked out the name Anna Claire, which we liked but all our children have been named after someone in the family. I initially thought to use AnnaLeigh because my two other girls have Leigh in their names. But one Sunday I was sitting in church reading the bulletin and their was a mass intention for Louis and Annalice Miller and I realized that was my great grandparents. I fell in love with the name on the spot.

It's become quite popular. We even have another 6 yr old Annalise in our hs group. And I know of two others in our small town.

I love the name Irene.

We went back and forth between Kimberly Irene, or
Irene Marie for our last dd- Kimberly Irene was the winner!

my German/French/Dutch maternal Grandma was Anna Rosella, isn;t that pretty?? but she often referrred to herself as Ann, and sometimes said it was Rosalie for the middle name, but it was more of the nickname form of Rosella, which IS on the Birtch Certificate.

SOmetimes people give us a bit of a hard time about Maria (it's a "mexican" name!!) , but I have family trees dating back to thew 1500's and on this same Dutch/German/French side of the family, there are 9 Marias!

Well, we've pretty much depleted the names we are willing to use from the family trees...Unless names like Barlcana, Artemicia, etc are your style, lol....

I honestly don't like Rosemary. Its good as an herb, but as a name it doesn't ring any chimes for me, iykwim...

I like Anna, okay. It just seems to be very "Ann" ish--one of those names that EVERYONE (who didn't have the middle name Lynn, Leigh, or Marie) had...

DH isn't keen on having a Mary, and anything too "Latin" sounding (he was thinking Sofia Loren when I suggested Sophia--I had to correct him and say "Sophia--Regency romance heroine, English Hanoverian 18th century princess" to get him to okay dd#3's name)...so that rules out alot of names...

One of the girls names we have farther down the list is Cecilia/Celia Margaret. It was a contender for dd#1s name, way back when...but didn't win out in the great Thanksgiving day vote/poll, lol.

Unfortunately, I'm a convert, and so were DHs parents, so family names are pretty "out"....I don't want to name the dc after any of his sisters (I'd prefer an elderly, if not dead, relative, iykwim--don't want to feel like I need to name any other dd's after the other sisters--no one would think Amelia Therese was named for DHs sister Teresa, though--NO WAY that will happen, lol).

I kwym about MaryRose as a middle sounding very choppy. I like a longer middle name, though, than just Rose. SIGH. (Helena's middle name was going to be Elizabeth, except I had a great aunt die right after I found out I was expecting...so she got Ardith instead).

Rachel

Yes, from what I have found it is a English or Irish pet form of Mary, and has been in use since the Middle Ages.

Yep, that's right. I'm actually Mary Frances, but have been called Molly since birth. My Irish great-grandmother (born in 1892) was Mary Frances, called Molly.

I have a Kathryn Cecilia and I hesitate to say we also have a Bridget Darling.

We absolutely love her middle name. It's unique without being pop culture-ish or weird. And it really fits her. (we could be a bit biased though )

But since we named her, we've had no less than 7 people use the name too after hearing about her!

We toyed with Precious as a middle name of the next girl (should this be a girl), but dh says it's too much not a our ethnicity.

So if this one is a girl we're on the fence for either Phoebe Noelle or Sophia Noelle. Of course, it's also possible we'll take one look at the baby and just think the name doesn't fit and go with something else, but for now, these are top contenders if this baby is a girl.

If she turns out to be a he, then the poor guy is up creek because we've used all the good biblical boys names that aren't already taken by others in the family.

I've half teased that we could always go with Frank for frankencense.

I have always wanted a December Baby just so I could use the name Noelle. I used to wish that that was my name (my bday is Dec. 18.)

I think Sophia Noelle is beautiful!!!!

I hear ya! We picked out Blaise for our youngest son before we went to the hospital but I told my husband that all bets were off if he popped out with red hair (like some of my husband's siblings). No way, no how was I going to name a red-headed boy Blaise!!!

Thank goodness he was a dirty blond like his Daddy!

How about Mariah as a variation of Mary? I have a Mariah and it does sound so pretty.

Rachel

Are you wanting variations on Rose? I have Thomas Sheehan's Patron Saints Names with 16,000 names, I'll be back later with his suggestions if you like.

BTW I have a Genevieve Rose, love Rose but know what you mean about it being short, in fact she is my only one syllable name.

I would like to offer my favorite versions of Mary, both of welsh descent:

Mai (pronounced My)
Mare
Maura (or Moira)

Also (from Sheehan's book):
Masha (Russian)
Marysa (French)
Marys (Mary+Son)
Marya (Slavik)

We have some freinds who just named their baby Malia Therese (Mah-LEE-ah). It is a Hawaiian name that means "Mother of God". I think it is just beautiful.

I like Rose, but its not been on my middle name list, iykwim. I'm just not sure what we'll end up doing with a girls' name.

BUT we got the letter from my grandmother. She usually tries to bribe me with $100 to use the name she picks. She likes Mary Rose, but guess what she picked for a boy? MALCOLM LEON...Malcolm, not so bad...but WHERE did she pull LEON from (no offense meant to those who love those named Leon, or who long to name their son that. But there is no way I am using that name).

Besides, we've got a boys name already--Joseph Benedict. LOL

Rachel
