My favorite...picking out a name for a new baby...
I had names picked out. But DH and the girls aren't too keen on the girls name I had picked out (Julia Faith)...the boys name they seem fine on (Joseph Benedict). The girls like Mary Rose. I still like Julia. Does Julia MaryRose seem like too much? DH didn't want me giving the twins three names (I just dropped the last one I wanted on each), so I don't know how he'd go for a double middle name slammed together like that...
What do you think? Other girls names on the list (for possible eventual use) are Lucy Claire and Amelia Therese. Got any good old-fashioned favorites? (I'm trying to remember my signature line, and cannot remember if I've named the dc in there...)
We've already got a Lily Katharine, a Helena Ardith, and a Sophia Charlotte. Our last name starts with a H, we like shorter first names, ending in a vowel, with an old-fashioned flavor, that do NOT resemble any of my SILs/Sister's names (Karen, Regina, Pamela, Mary Christine--she goes by Chris, Rebecca, Teresa, Stacie, Jennifer, Leslie, Alicia, and Erica). Yeah, lots of names there...DH has nine sisters. And we aren't naming them after our mothers, either (Geraldine/Geri, and Susan).
So, do you have any ideas? I like Julia MaryRose, but I haven't broached it with the family yet.
Of course, I do have a good long while..but I like to get these things decided pretty early on...

I dunno. I kind of like a consonant ending on the middle names, but a vowel sound on the first (we have a consonant ending on our last).

Claire as a first name (I love this name..)
Amelia is a fave of mine too....
I like Rose, too...
in all honesty, I don't love "julia" - but I have known many Julie's so that could be why...no offense intended to any Julia's out there, I promise! I do like Jael, which is similar and Biblical.
(You have already used another favorite with Sophia...)
Any other variations of Mary? Marin, Moira, Miriam, Molly?

To be honest, although I like Julia Mary Rose, squishing the names together sounds rather artificial to me.
I like Rose as a middle name (I have a Naomi Rose of my own ). What about Maria Rose? Or just Julia Rose?

What about Julia Rosemary? Less cumbersome and you still get both names in there?

We have:
Emma Cecilia
Elisabeth Grace
Mary Catherine (it was this or Catherine Marie) When she arrived, Mary Catherine seemed to suit her better.
I know it can get to be hard to find "the" name. We always use both family and saint names. I cannot figure out anymore girl names if we are so blessed, but Joseph Benedict has been at the top of my boy list for a few years! 
I love Mary Rose. Of course, I do love all the "Mary ___" names.

I love love love 3 names. I have a Molly Mae Elizabeth :)
I've been throwing girl names around myself lately. Since we have a Mary and a Molly, we are considering another variation of Mary and going with Miriam. But, some others I love:
Cecilia Grace
Veronica Grace
Rosemary (something)
Amelia Joy
Annalise (something)
But I guess you said shorter first names - those are longer. I have a love/hate thing with choosing names.

I love Julia and Juliana....but I must admit MaryRose seems to make it sound a little choppy...I like the suggestion of just Rose. Juliana Grace was our choice for a girl in my first pregnancy....it's still a favorite, but girl's names seem to get very little use around here .

Oh, I love Juliana, too!
There is a little girl in our homeschool group named MaryRose. So, I am used to it but it did seem a little different when I first heard it.
however, we have an AerynClare Magdalen, so we go with longer names.... (she was almost Kasimiera Grace - Kasimiera was one of my great, great aunts from Russia - it was Americanized to Katherine when they immigrated - but dh saw the name and loved it.)
Oh, I love picking out & discussing names.

Can I ask about the origin of the name Annalise? Is that a saint name or a variation?
And Molly? I had an aunt Molly and I always thought it was just "cute" but I know a bunch of Catholic families with a Molly. Is it a Mary variation?
We have such an easy name with girls names here. I'm still trying for Eleanor (tried last time and we have Margaret instead). Dh is not a fan. He wants Caroline which I'm warming up to. Rosemary is a big favorite of mine but dh can't imagine a non-redhead named Rosemary and we're not likely to produce any redheads!

Yes, from what I have found it is a English or Irish pet form of Mary, and has been in use since the Middle Ages.

I'm a fan of Annelise or Annalise as well.
(pronounced anna-lisa, although some will say leece)
it is a german form of Ann, and Lisa or Lise is a short form of Elisabeth, Elizabeth. so st ann and st elizabeth.
(also happens to be my name in reverse, I'm one of the millions of Lisa Anne's!!!)
I also like Greta- a short form of margaret!!

Thanks--I never realized Lisa was short for Elizabeth. I have an Austrian cousin named Anneliese (pronounced Ana-Lees).
Greta is a cute name. We thought we'd call our Margaret "Meg" but we ended up calling her Margie (hard g). I never liked that nickname until it fit my daughter so perfectly!

I have a Julia Therese and an Amelia Ann. I also have a Mary Jane and Catherine Margaret. I love the "old fashioned" names.

I would highly recommend Dictionary of Patron Saints Names as THE reference for connecting names and nicknames to patron saints. Fabulous resource! It can link any name to a patron saint!
According to Sheehan, Annalise is a combination of Anne and Lisa (which is an Italian and Scandinavian nickname for Elizabeth).
Molly is listed as a nickname for Mary.

Julia Rose sounds nice. Very beautiful, yet dignified.
I have friends who gave their daughters Swedish-American names, and they spell their oldest's name Emilia instead of Amelia. (Their youngest is Isabella.)
Another friend named her youngest Faith Victoria.
I like dignified names for girls (mine ends in a "y" and sounds like a nickname)...I always tried to imagine my babies' names on a business card. You can name a baby Margaret and call her Maggie or Peggy or whatever, but she still has a lovely name for a business card or byline...if you name her the nickname, that doesn't work. (My youngest godbaby is Margaret Mary Greth, and everyone calls her Maggie.)
I have a cousin, Katherine Elaine, who goes by Kate.
Of all my nieces, I love the youngest's name the most: Sarah Elizabeth.
Julia does sound nice, though...she was Betsy's loving older sister in the Betsy-Tacy books...they bickered as kids but loved each other dearly in high school and beyond...
That reminds me of some other literary names, like Mary Caroline and Laura Elizabeth...
