Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I didn't "exactly" fulfill my daily goal. I did walk to the mailbox and back, I had NO candy! But my computer still isn't working right (I'm on dh's) so I settled for 10 minutes of power walking and doing stretches. It's hard to do when you have an entourage of little girls constantly at your heels!

On a kind of related note, do you ladies notice that you are more stiff as you get older? I try to stretch all the time but still feel stiff as a board. Some of that may be from sleeping with a baby in my arms every night, but I have been doing that for 12 years.

I'm in!

Goals:

To drink ~ a glass of water an hour (check out the hydration calculator)

To do T-Tapp program to tone and firm: 4 day boot camp (to start as soon as the DVD arrives, just can't get going fast enough reading the book only!) then 2X a week

Walk for 30 minutes 3X a week

To increase amount of vegetables eaten through better meal planning.

Praying for us!

Love,

I'm in!

I have one big goal and that is to walk a minimum of 1.5 miles a minimum of 4 days/week. I'm getting everyone up early in the AM so we can do it as a family before the temps get over 100. We started last week and so far it's been great for us ALL!

I'm also keeping a food diary. I read that people who keep food diaries consistently lose more weight, in less time. It's hard to write down "3 chocolate chip cookies" but I'm doing it!

I've also recently started blogging over at Prevention.com about health & fitness and how it'll relate to my family. They have a ton of great tools and articles to help make fitness and health easy. That blog will also keep me honest :)

God bless you, Melanie. I just can't get us up and walking early, sigh.

Thanks so much for the food diary suggestion. I just set up a free account at www.fitday.com and it looks promising. Are the tools at Prevention similar? (I like your picture!)

Love,

I just grabbed the September Prevention today -- it looks especially good as far as health and weight loss articles and tips. I'll have to check out the website, Melanie. So far this month (all 2 days of it), I haven't gotten my exercise in. Our whole family has been sick since July 4th weekend, something respiratory with fever for 9 days. I'm just up from 2 1/2 weeks mostly lying on the couch, so just being up all day has left me tired. I hope to start moving, slowly, gradually, tomorrow, I hope.

Peace,
Nancy

I push mowed the lawn on Saturday. Ugh! I count that as enough exercise for the weekend. LOL

Glad to have everyone aboard! It's never too late to join.

OK, I think I'll have to buy a video. The weather here is so unpredictable that I can't plan walks. DH also said once the fall/winter rainy season hits I'll need to find something else or I may gain everything back.

Pushing the lawnmower counts, Vanna!
DH has a ride one....I'd rather walk and push the lawnmower for the excercise.

Oh, I'm trying to keep in mind....Muscle weighs more than fat.      My thighs hurt...my stomach aches (situps)...I haven't had a Pepsi....and that beast of a scale hasn't moved!!!

Off we go to walk around the lake....

Today...walked 2 miles and 50 situps.
I'll finish the second set of 50 situps before bed.

Thanks for the tip about the video, Vanna. I'm off to checkout the site.

Love,

Angie, I think the tools are very similar, and might even be the same back end. Can you post your mood on fitday as well as food and activities?

And, thanks for the compliment on the pic. It's almost 4 years old, but it's hard to find a picture of "just me"!

I've been struggling with the early AM walks! It helps that Lydia is up around 7 these days and Nate is a cheerful morning person . . . they definitely help me get going!

Well, today doesn't count .. recovering from the last weekend of swim meet for the season..

I'm 1 month post partum so can't be too strenuous at first here.. I do want to get to the pool and do some swimming during lap swim times. I haven't gotten to do any swimming so far for obvious reasons and we only have until the 24th before the pool closes.

I don't own a scale.. it's nice because I really don't care how much I weigh. I've weighed what "they" consider to be overweight for my height and structure but been rather thin.. it was the summer I worked as a firefighter. So I already know that muscle weight messes up what I "should" weigh. I might get out the tape measure though.. that should be a nicely accurate way to see progress.. but I'll think about that.. not sure I want to see those numbers yet

DH and I have a reunion with our college marching band this fall.. early Nov. That's 3 months.. that should be enough time for me to look a whole lot less post partum I would think. But I also have to be careful to not overdo things because I am nursing the baby.. nice slow progression even though I'd love to be able to have it all drop off FAST.. but then I'm not generally all that willing to do what I need to, to get my weight to drop off.

I've generally gotten back to pre-pregnancy weight before each pregnancy.. it's the weight I put on before that first pregnancy that's still hanging around

At a guess from past experience, I have about 10 lbs to lose to hit pre-pregnancy.. and that will come off without any changes on my part. So any changes should make things come off somewhat faster..

Some good exercise.. though I don't know what after the pool closes.. I just really want to take advantage of that while I can.

And dropping most sweets.. I've been eating way to much trying to keep up with myself. So one of the things I need is better snacks.. because I need those. When I'm busy I'm not eating enough at meals and that's when I boost with the candy and junk. Gotta figure out the meal thing or I'll sabotage myself in no time.

1) reduce junk food
2) get to the pool m-f at lapswim time until the pool closes.

Approximately 0.89 miles in 30 minutes. So I've walked two out of four days of August so far.

I'm a little bit late with this, but...
-Join WW online and stick to it.
-Exercise a little every day.
-Drink my 8/8oz glasses of water every day.
-Try very diligently to wean off of Diet Coke.
-Get off of pizza (terrible addiction, I may need rehab!)

I just joined up with a group of women in my area who are all trying to lose weight and get healthy. This has been really helpful the past few days and hopefully it will continue to be. I really want to succeed this time!

Blessings,
Betsie

Hi Ladies! I'm still here. It has been a very busy August so far. I did really well with my goals in July. This is what they were:

Daily exercise, vitamins, herbs, vit C drink, gardening.
I did really well. Only missed each of them 5 days or less. I even started jogging some and am very happy with my progress in that. However, I did not lose much weight. Not even an entire pound.

So my goals for August are to continue those five things as well as:

cut down sweets to once a day

track my food intake on WW eTools

166/134.5/125

I have to weigh in on the 10th so hopefully I can lose a bit more by then!

I am jumping in with my goals.

walk 5 miles a day (I have waaaayyy more to lose than the average.)

Increase fruits and vegs to 3 servings each a day

Increase water consumption!

My goals seem fairly similar to all of yours. Exception: situps! I used to do 100 a night a VERY long time ago. Enter pregnancy with #3 son (who weighed 10# at birth.) I can't remember my labor pain with him, BUT I can remember the searing pain of my abdominal muscle tearing right down the middle at 7 mos. Any attempt at a situp results in the most lovely ridge right down my middle.    Bleh!

God Bless,
Stacy

OK, apparently I missed the class about water.

Besides hydration and a calorie free drink, what are the benefits of increasing my intake of water?

The reason this has my attention is because I haven't worked out this hard in a long time and the stupid scale is going up! No Pepsi and strenous walks/hikes through state parks and trials.....NOTHING, and it's been two weeks.

I drink maybe 3 cups of coffee and have a glass of water. LOL I know, not much, but I'm still alive.

Could my body be hanging on to the weight JUST because of water?

(maybe I'll get out the tape measure for a little while to not get too discouraged , but when the scale goes down it's a tremendous boost to keep going!!)

BTW....according to the hydration calculator I should be drinking over 135 oz of water a day....ooops. I better go get a glass now!

My dh informed me that it takes a while before the body is convinced that it needs to start shedding pounds. He said for a little while it sort of panics and holds onto everything you put in. I can confirm this is true because after my 3rd baby when I was walking to lose weight I was so discouraged for a couple of weeks. I was doing everything right and nothing was coming off. But, after about 2 weeks it started consistently coming off...1-3 lbs. a week. And, yes, muscle mass does weigh more than fat so as you walk or work out and you replace fat with muscle you can expect some compensation there.

Water intake is important for about a million reasons - it flushes the toxins out, provides hydration for cell reproduction, helps aid digestion, etc. Did I mention that I miss my Pepsi's though? I thought it was funny to see everyone quoted in your post!

I am so happy to read this! I was feeling a wee bit discouraged after, yes just a week , of 5 mile days with no diet changes for the worse!, and NO results (except I am sleeping much better!) I will keep it up and see what happens by the end of the month.

God Bless,
