Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks for all of the prayers! And thanks for asking Angie!

I picked Charlie up yesterday. He was a little disappointed in the camp. I think he was hoping for the "boot camp" portion to be more rigorous. He has been training for it for months. He is in top physical shape. He did 86 push-ups in a minute!

I was hoping he would be a little more interested in the leadership part of the camp, but wasn't surprised that he didn't "get into it". I really believe that he is a born leader and have a feeling that it will get thrust upon him later. Right now, he just wants to be a "grunt".

He did get to visit some different bases and learn a lot about combat techniques. He really respected the young man who was their "doctor". He is a medic in training. But he was encouraging Charlie to look at all the different fields in the Marine Corps, not just infantry. So today, Charlie is studying the various jobs and their requirements and opportunities. So, while he doesn't seem particularly different in talking to him, I am thinking that your prayers may have been effective in planting a seed.

Cay, I can't believe he is at this point either!

Molly, I am glad he's home safely. You are right, the USMC will find Charlie's leadership qualities and promote him (unless he doesn't study for the exams) and he'll soon find himself leading.

Sounds like the young medic gave him excellent advice, too.

Charlie has to keep in mind, most Marines are motivated like he is...not everyone who goes to the summer programs is totally motivated, but they're "trying on" the Marines to see if there's a good fit. Just because this summer was easy doesn't mean the real Marine Corps will be!
