We are starting August 18th. I figured it was not too early, not too late..but JUST right. Also, with the Feast of the Assumption on Friday, Mass again on Saturday and Sunday, MAYBE, just maybe, I will have enough Grace to kick off the school year!
I had originally planned on starting the 4th of August so I could take time off during the lovely fall in Virginia, but that is coming up too quickly for me!

July 28th.
Typically, we've schooled year round. This year, the girls actually did well with a large chunk of weeks off. That is, until last week. So I threatened them with school. When they cheered, I figured I'd better follow through. They are doing well, considering! We will take some time off in Sept when the weather cools off.

LOL True confession time? We are STILL in school here, no formal summer break yet! So, (kidding) when you are all back in school next week or soon, we will be having our own summer vacation as the end of August and September are in full focus. Yep, we take our summer vacation time when we feel like it, around hubby's schedule and it's different every year. Personally I feel summer really only begins by August here, and oh the joy of no crowds for September outings! LOL
Okay, okay, actually one of our daughters married last year and we weren't able to begin formal learning again until early October after all our visiting company went home. We also took time off in the new year to fly to the westcoast to meet our new grandbaby, that was before chicken pox and a pneumonia scare hit our home, resulting in more time off. The children and teens are involved in summer activities or working jobs around their last scheduled schooling and we should be done very shortly. Ahhhhh.....have fun going back to school everyone, (snicker, snicker)....teasing you greatly here.
Hugs to all of you with all my kidding around...

This is funny. My dh and I went to school in Indiana where they usually start in mid-August. Then we moved to Michigan 6 years ago where no school can legally start until after Labor Day (HUGE tourist weekend here). We thought that was really weird at first, but it has become normal now. So hearing people talk about starting in mid August sounds really strange to me now! It really is a question of perception and geography, apparently . We're starting the Tuesday after Labor Day, going 4 days a week, 4 weeks per month until the end of May. We are actually doing Michigan history right now, but nothing else and that will end when we start "real" school.
Blessings,
Betsie
