We have several favorites but our most visited is the pond and pasture at Big Woods Mission base, the home ofthe mission company we served with. It is close by and free and affords the pleasure of friends to visit with and a tabernacle visit along with nature study opportunities galore. There are swampy areas, a large pond full of life, woods, and an open grassy field. We have spotted all kinds of things there and enjoyed many lazy picnics. The kids liketo fish in the pond with cane poles and pick blackberries in the early summer. In the fall, we like to explore the woods and try to spot deer. It is also a great place to star gaze. We can pull the truck all the way in to the pond's edge and lie in the truck bed to scan the night sky. Fire flies and owls abound. Because it as our home on and off, it feels comfortable and familiar and yet we always find something new. I try to make on Friday afternoons after Mass, but July and August are nearly impossible in Louisiana--heat and mosquitos are more than we can bear. September, are you coming?

I'm so happy that your book is coming together, MacBeth! I'm praying for you!

How long will you be collecting mom stories? I want to add that one of my favorite places is the Navy Lodge beach in San Diego but I don't have time right now to write about it and do it justice.

Locally, I second Melanie's recommendation of the Riperian Preserve. Great way to spend time with local and migrating birds.
