Tested this morning--BFP. I am thrilled, but of course a bit of prayers are always in order.
Now I have to think about when/how to tell my parents (the "Use some common sense, Rachel "
folks).
Any advice, suggestions? Given that they live in GA and I am in OK, and there are no plans to see any of my family between now and November, well, it doesn't need to be done immediately. DH suggested waiting til I delivered. LOL (Edd 3-30-09, two days before our 14th anniversary).

I have some announcement poems that you could send them on my blog!
http://marthaamdg.wordpress.com/about-us/baby-poems/
feel free to edit them to suit your needs!
That's what I do. I send a card or email announcement when I'm ready to announce. Then they have some time to stew about it rather than blurting something when we tell them.

I waited until nearly 2 months before by due date and told the less enthusiastic family members. I told a friend later it was the 2 first mysteries of the Joyful mysteries: the annunciation and charity towards my neighbor!
God bless,

Send a card, when you are ready. We like to do it with a copy of the 18 week ultra sound.

I just tell 'em. I have put it off in the past, and well that was terrible for me. I was worried about being discovered!
We just "get it over with" asap! And we've made it clear that we don't appreciate comments, then when we get them, we just shrug and move on. We also make it clear that we are ~happy~ about it. So nasty comments aren't welcome.
About general comments.... The one we currently get ALWAYS now is, "Hey you guys are like John and Kate Plus 8!" and we laugh and say "Well we didn't get six at once, I think they have it tougher".... If the Lord blesses us again, I think I'll start say, "Yeah, but we've passed them now!"
MaryK, the mysteries is funny! Thanks, it helps me to have a sense of humour when announcing time comes around.

Seeing us isn't an issue. They live in GA, we're in OK. Not much chance of them coming out til spring. But my aunt and grandma may be out here in November....so I need to let my parents know before then.
A letter might work, but honestly, I don't know if that would go over any better than a phone call...

Maybe not, but at least you won't be right there to listen to it as you would be on the phone or in person.
Sometimes that's just the best we can do, kwim?

Personally, I cut out Elizabeth's recent article in the Arlington Catholic Herald to save for that "rainy day" when I might be blessed with a baby. It was about a conversation she had with someone who was rude concerning the news that she was expecting again. She couldn't quite get the words right at the time, but later she wrote about, "Hey, but I get to have another baby.", and all the joys that come with that. I thought that might be nice to send out with the birth announcement or something like that IF we ever have another one. Most of my family has come to grips with the fact that we plan on having a large family, but they still seem to take the news as a shock and think we aren't planning or are being irresponsible I think. They always love the babies once they are here, but it is the telling that is the hard part. I would just say to get it overwith too. I waited awhile with my last baby, although I have to admit not KNOWING for awhile myself. Anyway, it was just as difficult when I finally told them then if I had just gotten it overwith. It was just torture for me in the end, and I should have just "jumped in" to use a cold pool analogy. If you are going to do it, just do it right away. I think a note or poem might be a cute way to do it. That way, the person can deal with their initial odd reaction on their own and have time to calibrate their emotions before they call you. You could say something on the bottom of the poem like, "Hope to hear from you soon!"

I've been getting emails from one of my sisters today. I've SOOO almost sent her the pic of the BFP on the POAS. But I have to tell my parents. Maybe I ought to call and leave a voice mail...
Course, I'm only 4 wks along. I'm thinking I'm going to wait as long as I can (which is never very long, honestly, lol) and will call them during the day when they are both at work, and leave a message on their machine at home. Maybe that will work. Still gets it said and over with, and yet gives them the time to respond without (hopefully) being a pitb and a real downer about it...

I am nearly 12 weeks now and I just told my parents last week. I was having anxiety attacks just thinking about telling them. Tony called them and he was going to tell them himself, but dad asked to speak to me about something and I just blurted it out to get it over with. My mother said she wasn't suprised nor happy. I told her I figured and that was the end of the conversation. It was REALLY nice to have my husband beside me for it. I am so dependent on him for all kinds of support...
Congrats mama! We are certainly thrilled for ya here in our house!! YAY!!

I will keep all of you in my prayers. I think it is so sad that people react badly to babies coming into the world.
I only have two but if I were to have another, it would be extremely hard to tell my mother. Her only comment about my step-brother having his 4th was "Isn't that terrible?"
((hugs))

It's so sad to hear the reactions family can give to the news of pregnancy.
My dad and my bro's reaction to my 3rd child was "Are you serious??!" My kids were the ones who told them, over the phone. I had to tell them that it was GOOD news and we were very happy about it. This one was planned. Of course, they love dd3 now. Since then, we have been very open about having more kids. I say it all the time so when we do have another, it wont be a surprise. I know though, from my dad's tone of voice, he does not want me to have anymore kids. I got pregnant with my 1st at a young age and i think that has just spoiled it all for him. I havent finished college either and he's disappointed in that. I do know that after it has all sinked in, he's very happy and cant wait for the baby. He loves his grandkids so much.
So there's an idea...have your kids break the news to them. Of course, they'll be so happy and excited when they tell your parents the news. They cant say anything bad to your kids about it, can they?
