I'm not sure if this is the place to post about a movie made from a great book, but here goes:
For those of you who have been wondering about the upcoming The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe film, see what Barbara Nicolosi said after a screening:

I don't know the rating of the new film but we did watch part of the BBC video last night.
We have seen it before but thought it was fun to re-visit it, having just read the book aloud ( again!) and before seeing the new movie.
The BBC version is interesting - we commented on the "two Edmunds", showing his conscience and his choices. How well this was done.
I want a cute, enthusiastic daughter like the acress who plays Lucy in this film! lol!

PG-13 is the word on the street. The demons are quite frightening.

I'm pretty sure MacBeth is right about the PG13 -- if you view the trailers, there are some pretty violent battle scenes.
Is anyone doing the The Narnia Academy? My littles and I are enjoying reading a chapter at lunch and then doing the lesson plan for that chapter after quiet time.
We made the Turkish Delight that they show on the website on Saturday, but it wasn't jelly-ish. I found a bette recipe and will try that one! There is no way Edmund could have eatern POUNDS of the first recipe!
My husband is so into this that when we borrowed the old video from the Library, and the second half of TLTWTW was un-viewable, he went out and bought the DVD set! And he NEVER does stuff like that

Jenn,
We really like the BBC productions - some of the special effects are a bit low budget - but we have enjoyed the series.
We have them all.

I thought PG-13 also.
My children are so excited to see it.
I am hoping someone here will see it and post a review.
Mary, you might want to check you library for the Narnia Cookbook. It is one my children really enjoy! OOP though and very expensive on the internet.

Yep, Jenn -- sorry about that!
And for those who want to know the BBC/Wonderworks version of the Narnia stories is great -- they did LTWTW, Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the Silver Chair. I just wish they had done the Last Battle -- that's my favorite!
The one thing I'm worried about with the new one is it will rely more on techno stuff and not so much on the story -- there had been a rumor they were going to un-Christianize it but that would be darn near impossible!

I'm hoping they'll reintro the Narnia Cookbook with the resurgence of interest in all things Narnian!

This is what has my husband worried.
We've started reading the series aloud with my 7 year old. I have been waiting for this time, because I have loved the books for so long, and had the pleasure of introducing my husband to them years ago. What a treat it is to see the books through new eyes.
And reading aloud has allowed me to really breathe in the writing.
I can't wait for the movie. I'd like to take my 7 y/o ds, but I am a bit worried that the images would be too much for him. He's led a fairly shelted media life. Scary things in books are one thing,(although we try to limit that too) but a whole other thing when the images are put up there for to see.

Noreen:
If you can get a copy of the BBC Chronicles of Narnia -- your son would probably love those! They are really well done. We used to have the set on VHS, but they were just about worn out (by my littles, especially the son about to turn 7) and we gave them away -- we now, thanks to DH have them on DVD. Well worth the cost!

I always am hesitant to give the opposite view of Leonie.......since she is one of my favorite mentors
but, here goes.......
My kids cannot stand the BBC versions.....while they are pretty true to the stories.......they find the acting painful to watch, and they find the choices of actors for the characters off the mark.......they are quite annoyed by Lucy! they moan and groan whenever the topic of the movies is brought up.......seriously
We have seen them about 3 times each...........as recent as last year............because Maddelyn had just finished the books and she was curious to see the movies since she had been younger the first time around.
I just thought I would mention this since it could cost someone a pretty penny to get them...........and have them be disappointed. "I" can tolerate the movies fair.........we love the BBC stories on audio so much more!
My kids are hesitantly hopeful about the new movie...........we bought an interesting soundtrack the other day to get in the mood. We will start rereading TLTWTW next week. Can't wait............
God bless...........chari......who just started re reading Anne of GG..........yet again...

Chari,
Isn't it interesting to see the differences?
I think my kids like the "innocence and simplicity" of the BBc productions.
But, hey, we also love the OLD Dr Who series and the original OLD Star Trek and Lost in Space!
We are corny!

Chari,
Maybe it's becuase my littles started watching the BBC production when they were maybe 3 and 4 (now they're almost 7 and 6) so they enjoy the simplicity of it. You're right though, my older ones (14 and 16) think Lucy is horrid and some of the special effects are pretty dated.
We've been reading TLTHTW and it's amazing how much better Lewis' story is -- the littles even notice the greater depth of character and background info. They don't even squirm during the long descriptive portions! And my just-about 3 yos loves walking around, pointing to his siblings, and saying "and WHAT, pray, are YOUUUUUUUU!"

We're not that keen either on the BBC production. I think the truth is that our children have been spoilt by far better special effects today. This is the world in which they have grown up in.
Just saw some shorts on TV it all looks rather spectacular, then again New Zealand scenery is awesome.

This was a much better end-result. Thanks for posting. The kids and I made this one and really enjoyed the candy -- but again, I don't know how Edmund could eat "pounds" of this stuff.....

Oh, we love the old Star Trek and Lost in Space, too. And the old Zorro series. And Daniel Boone. Corn is our middle name

PS Do you all think the demons in the new Narnia movie are any worse than the orcs in LOTRs? When LOTRs came out, my 9 yods wrote a movie review for the homeschool newspaper. He wrote that the Orcs were quite scary and that he was "pretty sure they were Democrats"
Even my Democrat friends thought it was quite humorous!
