Cay, I'm so, so sorry!
Asking Our Dearest Mother to speed PawPaw to his reward in heaven with Sts. Peter and Paul as escorts! May Our Lady of Sorrows bring comfort and healing to all of you as your hearts ache. May she continue to keep you all securely wrapped in her mantle, and you especially Cay, as you offer comfort and love to your grieving family.

Cay, I am so very sorry! You and your family have been in my prayers these days. May your dear PawPaw rest in Our Lord's arms, and may our Blessed Mother and her Son bring you all the strength and peace and joy that you need. My Mama (grandma) is so very special, as I know your PawPaw is. I can imagine your sorrow. You all were blessed to spend so much time with him, having him close. I hope that those many memories will bring you comfort.

I just love this, Angie. Thank you! It's such a perfect Scripture quote. The dot-to-dot connections I'm making are so unbelievably consoling. I printed this out to save and phoned our priest friend who is saying the Mass to see if he could use it in the homily.

I love this too, Jennifer.
Once again, thank you all for your thoughtful comments and prayers. I really can't thank you all enough for the prayers, letters, and messages.
This is the man who, at, 40 years of age, chose to give life to another child (an unexpected child) when the 1960's was in full swing and birth control was the new mind-candy to try. He was probably worrying about retirement and having to start his fathering act all over again (Mark's next to youngest brother was going on 10 years of age). But, in accepting this gift of another child, he gave life to a future family: Mark, Cay, Corey, Kayleigh, Garrett, Chelsea, and Annie.
Perhaps I can thank all of you; but I can never thank him enough.
I really wish you all could have known the man my father-in-law was. Perhaps, in this small way you can. Some friends visited us this afternoon and let us know that PawPaw's slideshow was at the funeral website. It takes awhile to load but they did such an excellent job!
Typical PawPaw, there are lots of photos of him holding the babies (including our five). He loved babies and was known far and wide for his devotion to the littlest members of society. We often called him the "Official Diaper Changer" in the family.

Cay, sending love and hugs and many prayers your way. Every time you posted stories and photos on your blog about visiting Paw Paw, I was deeply moved by the witness you and Mark are to your children and to all who observed your visits at the nursing home to the unimaginable value of every human life.
As a student nurse I worked evenings in a nursing home and saw many who were forgotten, or whose families would "breeze" in once or twice a year (even if they lived a couple of miles away) and make a big show over Mere-Mere (this was northern Vermont--very French). None of them could have told you Mere-Mere's favorite dessert or how she liked a backrub with pretty lotion that was a gift from a devoted nurses' aide. But you and Mark showed the children that in whatever state of health anyone is, they are precious and loved. You showed them how important it is to live out the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy in a way they could understand even when very small. You lived the faith to them so profoundly.
Eternal Rest grant to him, O Lord.
With love,
Mary Alice in Kansas

Cay,
I'm praying for you and your family. I just love the story you share about him in Christmas Mosaic. It brings tears to my eyes.

I haven't been on here much this week, so I'm just seeing this now. I'm so sorry for your loss, Cay, and will keep you all in my prayers.

Oh, Cay, my dear friend.....I am so sorry. Paw Paw has been my prayers for a decade........I will miss him, too. It is so sad when our children lose their grandparent.....I know what a blessing Paw Paw has been in your lives, and I am so grateful for that. You have always been such a good example to your children, you and Mark, taking care of him, and loving him.
HUGS to all of you!
