I think there are some paints that come with Kilz already in the paint. Another choice is Bin (it's an anti-mold primer). My dh recommends talking to people at a home repair type store.
God bless,

I am in the middle of painting my kitchen. I have to say how impressed I am with BIN primer. I did nothing to my varnished cabinet doors and the primer still stuck. I washed the walls, but couldn't get all the years of icky grease off and the BIN covered it completely.

I think your plans sound great, LeeAnn--the ladies here gave such great advice! I hope it comes out just as you want it!

Thank you for the recommendation for the BIN primer. I asked a friend who is a painter and he agreed it would be the best choice.

Well I didn't finish the kitchen. Pulling up the rotten floor took far longer than we had planned, and we suffered many cuts on our hands.
But I did finish pulling up the bad floor, putting down the new plywood and painting the floor. We also cleaned the cabinets, repaired, primed and 1 coat of paint on them. They still need some touch up.
I sorted and decluttered the contents of the cabinets and reorgainzed them (giving away more than I kept in the process). I did not get the shelves hung or the skirt for the lower cabinet made.
I am hoping to finish this week. But as we all know, these things take much longer with the help of an excited 3 year old.
Thank you all for your wonderful help!
LeeAnn
