Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday I did the Animals on Parade Workout (lol) and ran around outside with the kids...and followed that up with an ice cream sundae.

I need to get the junk food out of my house because I obviously have ZERO self-control. Sigh.

I have also decided to up my water intake. How much water do you all drink?

I keep track in the nutrition software I use, although I probably miss recording some here and there. From last Tuesday through yesterday I recorded an average of 51 ounces a day in glasses of water. The software also tracks the water content of a lot of the food I eat and other drinks I consume, but if I enter it off a package label instead of using the generic entry it won't have that information. It's probably not far from accurate though lately since I eat a lot of generic stuff -- it says during the same period I averaged 93.4 ounces of water intake per day, or 92% of what it recommended for me. I think that the exercise I enter (and perhaps the fact that I am pregnant, not sure) is taken into consideration for that recommendation. I feel like I probably would benefit from a bit more than I usually get but am better hydrated than I've been for most of my life. I also have a pretty moderate salt intake. I'd probably need to be having more glasses of water if my milk, juice, fruit and/or veggie intake were lower. I don't know what typical recommendations for how much plain water people should drink assume they are getting from food and other drinks.

Can you tell I like numbers/statistics?

THANKS to you all! You've got me pointed back in the right direction. I've completed just over a week back on WW online plan. I had let my wt. creep up 5 lbs. which is totally crazy since I'm so big already. I"ve lost 3 lbs and I've got to keep going. I need to be more active, however. Tonight I'm going to take the plunge and go swimming with the kids. I usually just sit and watch when I take everyone to the pool and hold baby but dh will be with us today so I'm going to try to do a couple laps if I can.

Thanks and onward ho!
JoAnna

I don't like to post stuff like this without any citations -- so Google for confirmation if you're interested in following this advice -- but I'm pretty sure I've seen recommendations for better digestion that water not be drunk with a meal itself, but a while after, and/or maybe before. So I try to wait a bit, or have orange juice with my dinner if I'm that thirsty (often there's milk with breakfast or lunch anyway), because I don't have a lot of trouble keeping my calories reasonable at this point and could use the Vitamin C.

I keep track of my water by using 32 oz. cups so I don't have to refill very often. I try and drink 2-3 of those a day.

I think I've heard that too about not drinking water with meals. I think you are suppose to absorb the vitamins and minerals better. I have a friend that doesn't drink with meals. Can't say that I stick to this, however.

I got my walk in today and I've had my vitamins! I've walked everyday but one this month. Can't say I'm losing much weight though.

Way to go, JoAnna! Have a great time at the pool. That is a great way to lose weight. I love swimming although I rarely do it. It's just easier to go for a walk, ykwim?

1.1 miles in 34 minutes tonight. In air so thick I wondered at what point it stops being considered air.

0.8 miles pulling a wagon with infant in a carrier! I'm so glad we got out, but yes Theresa, we were drenched when we got back.

Because you made me curious, Dr Sears says:
Quote:
Try waterless meals. It's best not to consume too much fluid with meals. The body normally produces its own fluids to help digest food, beginning with saliva in the mouth and digestive juices in the stomach and small intestine. Drinking too much fluid with a meal can dilute these natural digestive juices, contributing to indigestion. Better to drink most of your fluids between meals. An exception to this is alcoholic beverages, such as wine, which are best consumed with food, since the food in the stomach and intestines slows the absorption of alcohol, minimizing blood sugar swings and reducing the risk of intoxication. If you like water with meals, it's best to drink a little room-temperature water, since ice water slows digestion.

Today was good! I did not eat too much junk, and did a 30 min aerobic workout. Yesterday, I was so sick, I think I lost 5 pounds! No scale in the house, so no idea if all of this work is paying off.

I did ok with the food yesterday but did not exercise. I am weaning my baby and I think I've gained about 20 lbs just in my chest area. Ouch!

I will probably not be up for much physical activity until this subsides a bit. I will try to keep of the junk.... (notice I said "try"..lol)

Well, I thought I did okay with the food yesterday but the scale said otherwise this morning.

Got my walk/run in this morning since DH hadn't gotten called to work yet!

Thanks for sharing the Dr. Sears quote, Leah. Not too long ago I tried to find the answer to the "to drink or not to drink with meals" question, with no success.

OK...I missed my one day of exercise on the weekend. I missed Monday which means that I need to exercise each weekday through Friday. So far, so good.

Praying for us all!

Love,

No walk yesterday because of busy-ness and the possibility of thunderstorming but tonight we walked about 1.31 miles in 42 minutes.

Doing better here. Getting in the pool with the kids and swimming 10 laps--plus other play activities. They are loving mom being in the pool with them. I am SORE!
The dog jumped in to save me first time I went in, I could see her thinking, "Something is wrong! Mom is in the pool splashing around. Something is WAY wrong."
This big yellow lab circling me like a shark was crazy.
Daily walks and eating more salad. The scale hasn't moved though.

Good job, Leah!!

I've only lost 3.5 lbs so far this month. But I guess it's better than nothing...and far better than gaining, like I have been. lol

I'm going to try to be more active this week.

Go everybody!!
I rode my bike, with dd on trail a bike behind me, 10(yes, ten) miles yesterday!!! And dd did pedal some. We rode the train back to our car--good thing, too. Every time we stopped it took a long time for me to get going! It was all part of the fun!

No exercise walk on Friday. We hadn't had one by the evening and then we had shopping to do. I guess the exercise walks are helping me shape up since going to a mall and then a large grocery store didn't feel like as much exercise as I might have expected!

Saturday, walked about 1.07 miles in 35 minutes.

No walk Sunday for weather reasons.

Missed Friday because of...let's just call it a difficult day . Now I'm back on track .

I'm thinking about getting a waist float so I can exercise in the pool (which is a play pool so not able to lap swim in it.) Like Anne, I think my family will crack up seeing me exercise in the pool. I'm not a water person...won't even go in the pool until the water temp is 90 .

You all are doing great! I'm praying for you all often.

Love,
