Please pray. Hard. The hearing is June 25 (Wed.) IF her husband shows up. We really need this to be over. My oldest niece has spent far too much time listening to her father (she lives with him) and has lost sight of important facts (like Mom pays her Catholic high school tuition) and is now saying things that are not true about her Mom. We fear she will say these things in court. My s-i-l is braced for impact when it comes to her husband, but facing down her beloved daughter is another thing entirely.
My s-i-l knows all about you and really appreciates all the prayers you have offered up for her in past months. She is trying so hard to be brave and strong, but she is an abuse victim. She needs the strength of Saint Michael and the bravery of the ancient martyrs on her side. I told her I would ask all of you to storm heaven for her on Wednesday.
We don't know if her husband has asked or will ask for a continuance (is that the word?). He has no reason to want the divorce (Calif. law is forcing my s-i-l to pay his health insurance until the divorce decree is final), so we're trying to brace ourselves for delays.
My poor little nieces need prayers,too, as they watch this drama unfold around them.
Please pray for justice (most important!) and, if God wills it, for a swift resolution to the legal process.

Update 6/24.
My soon-to-be ex b-i-l didn't fill out the paperwork properly, so the hearing has been continued. He accused my s-i-l of verbally and physically abusing their oldest (he did it, actually, and there is evidence). He also says he wants custody of all the girls (even the two he has not visited since Christmas!). Grrr.
Please pray for everyone involved, for peace and truthfulness and a new hearing date that is sooner rather than later.

Update 6/25:
My SIL didn't tell me yesterday that she still has to do the mediation part of the hearing today. She is upset and nervous. Please pray for her. The hearing is at 8:30 AM PDT.

Well, I finally have some news.
The mediator told them that my SIL and her oldest daughter (who lives with her dad, 4 hours away) have to get joint counseling starting in August, and the judge agreed. This is a good thing...they need it. My "ex" BIL did not have an attorney and he had not given the court any paperwork, so everything is continued until 7/23, by which time he has to have turned in the papers. My oldest niece will not be given a say in her custody decision (she is 15); California law doesn't give teens that right.
So, all has gone pretty much as we thought it would, so far. Thanks for your prayers...I think they helped.
