Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, here's the response I got from the contact...

Hi Rachel,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have to plead ignorance on this part, that I do not know what the Nicene Creed is. I did look at it briefly online. If you could tell me what problems you have with the statement of faith, that would help. I'm trying to figure out the differences and see what we can work out. Also, just so you know, the younger children do have a "choir" time where they sing songs about God. I don't know how you would feel about this. We would love to have you all in our group, so we will see what we can do.

We had a good time at the air show too. We left after the show the Japanese Zero put on. Our younger girls were getting a little restless, although the boys could have stayed all day! It was good to see you all there and glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you again soon.

Christie

Now, I've not had time to respond since I got this (I spent the day yesterday having to run the dc to VCS, and DH to work and then pick him up, and making peach butter, AND trying to keep up with the rest of the stuff going on around here--incl the 2 geese, 3 goslings, 2 ducks, and 68 chickens, and the dog...

Any suggestions? I'm dog tired and cannot focus enough to get thru it all bit by bit...

Rachel

yikes. not even knowing what the nicene creed is yet making their own SOF is a red(der?) flag for me.

sigh.

I'll admit I've become quiet jaded in my experiences with prots in general dn groups specificly though.

hoping you have better luck than I have had.

Well, if she (the co-op) lady looked at the Nicene Creed online I think she would realize you are ok with singing songs about God...

Since it is your dh that is pushing the co-op can you turn all this over to him?   Have you explained the issues with the SOF with him? Does he agree it's problematic? Would the co-op accept his signature only or does it need to be both parents?

Let us know how things go!

Me again. Would your dh be willing to be the one to "get involved" with the girls (since he's the one that wants them out and about)? 4H maybe, or American Heritage Girls? Jennifer

No, cannot turn it over to DH. He works changing shifts (he is currently on the 330p-1130p, will go to 1130p-730a as of July 6, and then in early Sept, to 730a-330p--its an every two months rotation. As do his days off--right now its Mon-Tues off, next its Sat-Sun, and last its Thur/Fri). So I cannot count on his help.

Also, if I hand it over, it will be a "you don't want to do it" sort of thing, in his eyes, so I will get stuck listening to the "we ought to put them in school if you aren't willing to do what it takes" discussion over and over again...

So, a homeschool group it must be. Apparently, however, my call to the parish in the other town (20miles in the opposite direction from the town this first group is in) has seemingly yielded some fruit. I will be calling shortly, and will let ya'll know what I find. I only hope I can find some good Catholics. I need some moral support, iykwim. Online is great, for me, but IRL is terrific too. And needed as much for the dc as for me...

I couldn't believe she didn't know the Nicene Creed--but I will admit, as a protestant, I didn't know that either (I converted in 2005). So I cannot be "too" hard on her for that. I don't want to blow her off, cause she is/was a nice person, and I'd like to not burn any bridges, in that way, so if any of you all have any email suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I'm still a bit "draggy" from being wiped out this week...ugh. (The comment about the choir thing struck me as odd, too).

Rachel

I'm glad your call to the other parish may yield something positive. And I completely understand about your dh...

All you need is one other Catholic homeschooling family and you have a homeschool group all your own! We can even help think of a cool name for it, like Catholic Homeschoolers of Central Oklahoma (CHOCO!!)

I will continue to pray. You've been through so much in the last year. I can't believe the twins are already over a year old!!

Jennifer--DH isn't well catechized. No, really. He's getting there, over the past year or so. But since we've moved, we've both had a hard time getting settled here (not cause of any one thing, but we can't go to Mass as a family, and with his work schedule, esp right now, it means one of us misses it completely each week--and confession is hard to get too, for the same reason).

You can imagine how that makes things like this difficult.

Last night, as we were falling asleep (of course), he said "I want to put the girls in the V____ schools". Of course, we had JUST been talking about how much fun they had at VBS at our parish. SIGH. So I *HAVE* to find some friends for them, homeschooling friends, STAT.

PLEASE pray.

Rachel

I was able to talk to the lady from the other town--there is a hsing group there, too, so I'm going to keep an eye out for their emails. She's a Catholic--the only one in the group, but she said that the group is a varied one, and so they try to keep from insulting each other on a regular basis (woohoo!)...nah, she said that they were good about not trashing each other's faiths, and were comfortable with the arrangement. She also has an 8yr old dd (and an 11 yo)...so I am sooo praying that we will be able to "hook up" with them sometime soon and let the girls play, etc...

I was able to sound really upbeat with DH when he called a little while ago and let him know how excited I was, etc...He sounded pleased, so hopefully my being proactive about this has a positive result and he'll stop talking about the ps down the road...
